La Radio Télévision Nationale du Burundi (RTNB) (Burundi National Radio and Television) is the national broadcaster of the Central African state of Burundi. Burundi National Radio and Television currently broadcasts in Kirundi, French, Swahili, and English.

History

RTNB's headquarters in Bujumbura.

Radio began its activity in Burundi in 1961 with Radio Burundi, when the country was still a Belgian colony. Television made its debut, however, in 1984, long after its independence. The television station broadcast using a 0.5 kW transmitter in Bujumbura on UHF channel 25. Among its founding staff was Rwandan-born Valence Rwamukwaya, who was working on Burundi's national radio since 1982.

RTNB operates two radio stations and a television channel, which offer educational and information programs, as well as TV series, talk shows, cartoons and other entertainment programs.

In June 2013, Burundi began operations for the migration of television from analogue to digital technology, which was completed by the end of 2014.
