A barnstar for you!

The Admin's Barnstar
Not for working off a backlog of history-merge requests, but for responding to history-merge requests quickly so that there isn't a backlog, and for being the usual admin to address any history-merge request from AFC. As the award explanation says, "tedious, but needed". Robert McClenon (talk) 03:08, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
Thanks for helping me restore the Thomasian Welcome Walk article! Pampi1010 (talk) 17:10, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you (again)!

The Admin's Barnstar
For being the admin who most often performs the history merge after one of those copy-paste jobs. (Now, if only we could get editors to stop doing the copy-pastes, but there are at least two reasons, good-faith ignorance, and attempts to hog credit, that don't work, due to the Appleyard history-merges.) Robert McClenon (talk) 16:24, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Admin's Barnstar
Thank you for continuously working on my histmerge requests. Your work is greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work :) MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:40, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Condolences

I'm very sorry to hear that. Worm(talk) 13:03, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Good heavens. Very sorry to hear that indeed. Mackensen (talk) 13:06, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Sad news if true, RIP Anthony and thank you for your service over the years. Always a regular in the WP:RMTR and WP:HISTMERGE spaces. Will be much missed.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:46, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Oh no -- this is terrible news. He was a huge asset to RM/TR. RIP. Vaticidalprophet 17:16, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Very, very sad to hear this. If you had a complex page move, you interacted with Anthony, and he did a lot for this project. His loss is already being felt. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 17:44, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
He was a page move/history merge ninja.I've messed up more attempts since his December hospitalization because he wasn't active to ping for help. Huge loss. Star Mississippi 17:05, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • This is very sad to hear. He was part of the furniture and very well respected gentle admin. Rest in Peace. Polyamorph (talk) 18:50, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Rest in peace ... * Pppery * it has begun... 18:58, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Although I've never interacted with you because I came late on this project, I have felt your presence at several page histories and logs. Thank you for being an wonderful page mover. May you rest in peace. —CX Zoom 19:28, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • So sorry to read about this on BN. It seems like we have lost quite a few regular, longtime contributors over the past two years. And probably even more who we stopped seeing editing whose passing never made it back to Misplaced Pages. Liz 20:27, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Hi folks - I think I have found a clue in searching for "Anthony Appleyard Manchester" - The Gazette tells us an Anthony Appleyard from Manchester is a deceased estate, dated 28 February 2022 which is later than the day he last edited). It looks like the Wikipedian and the one on the Gazette is likely to be the same person so I think you're probably right, sadly. RIP. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:52, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I am pained to hear of your passing. My condolences to your friends and family. -- Dolotta (talk) 21:45, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • So sorry to hear this. I did start to worry some months ago, when for the first time in over 15 years, a request for help wasn't responded to. He is missed - belated condolences to family and friends. Johnbod (talk) 22:25, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Very sad indeed. You will be missed. ~ ONUnicornproblem solving 03:06, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I've worked with Anthony at the RMT. I'm very much distressed by this news. Alongside Cyphoidbomb, I'll remember him as the best ever admin on this encyclopedia, but sadly Cyphoid himself hasn't edited since 8 October 2021. ─ The Aafī 05:05, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I'm saddened to see this, an outstanding admin and the uncrowned king of history merges. My sincere condolences to any friends or family who happen to read this. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 07:47, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Was very saddened to see when this was brought up, rest well and thank you for all your help. You will be dearly missed. —Locke Coletc 07:49, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
  • This is most depressing. I remember when I edited as a dynamic IP for a decade, and Mr. Appleyard was always one of, if not the, most respectful and helpful people at RM when assisting with my move requests. To this day, as weird as it sounds, I always think of Anthony Appleyard whenever I am doing page moves. You will be missed. Rgrds. --Bison X (talk) 20:46, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Very sad news. I was a frequent poster at RMT and most of the time it was Anthony who did the move requests quickly and efficiently. A great loss for the project. Rest in peace. Vpab15 (talk) 21:17, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I often saw you at WP:RM. I was alarmed by your absence and hoped that you would eventually return. Unfortunately, a few minutes ago, I found that my fears about you no longer being with us were confirmed. R.I.P. and thank you for being an excellent administrator for the world's greatest encyclopedia. Scorpions13256 (talk) 02:03, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I am very saddened to see this. My condolences to Anthony's family and friends who may or may not see this thread. He was a valuable editor and will be dearly missed by those of us on Misplaced Pages. --TheSandDoctor 03:46, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Rest in peace, friend. — Moe Epsilon 06:42, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I feared this since he suddenly disappeared from WP:RMTR, the admin duty he diligently performed almost up to (what turned out to be) the last day. Rest in peace Anthony, and thanks for everything. No such user (talk) 06:51, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Peace in your eternal and easy rest. --Assyrtiko (talk) 08:53, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Rest in peace Anthony. Truly one of the good guys around here, you will be missed. Pichpich (talk) 17:07, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Rest in peace, as many have said, you'll be missed. -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:25, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I echo everything said above. A tireless Wikipedian who did as much behind the scenes to make this project as anyone - he will be missed. Dohn joe (talk) 19:46, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
  • One of our hardest-working admins, always helpful, fixed countless cut-and-paste moves over the years. Not a glamorous job but very important to Misplaced Pages. He will be much missed. Pawnkingthree (talk) 22:43, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Godspeed Anthony Appleyard. Herostratus (talk) 21:30, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Not sure where you are getting that number from. CentralAuth shows about 229 thousand global edits. 1234qwer1234qwer4 20:45, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@1234qwer1234qwer4: From here (warning: takes a long time to load). @Herostratus: Well said. Godspeed, Anthony Appleyard. TheSandDoctor 14:39, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Ah, that is probably due to page moves being counted differently by XTools and internally. 1234qwer1234qwer4 14:49, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Oh, right, I may have counted on en.wp edits. Doesn't matter for this case, as either way our late colleague has more than enough edits to qualify for many years, as his time from start is the constraining factor. And in fact he may well advance forever, as we talking right now about capping the number of edits required after you reach the current highest level. Herostratus (talk) 19:07, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

Never be the same

without him. He helped me so much. Mr. Appleyard from Manchester may your journey continue, challenging as ever. You leave behind a lot of loving friends who miss you terribly. Hopefully see you on the other side. Good hunting!  Paine  10:53, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Precious

master of merges and moves

You are recipient no. 2750 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:54, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Will miss you

Very sorry to hear that you have left us. Deb (talk) 11:41, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

I just found this today also. He will be missed. BilCat (talk) 19:12, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
I was not close to Anthony Appleyard in any sense, but it's still disconcerting to hear about the demise of a person whose name I have seen since I began editing Misplaced Pages 17 years ago. I extend my thoughts to their surviving family and friends. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:17, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
I just found out about this unfortunate news. He was very helpful when I did a project-wide cleanup within WikiProject Tropical Cyclones two years ago, especially relating to page histories. I'm grateful for these reasons. My condolences, MarioJump83 (talk) 09:47, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
I was going through my watchlist and saw the activity here... I'm incredibly saddened by this news. Anthony Appleyard was one of my favorite admins of all time, and this project is worse off without him. –MJLTalk 16:56, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Anthony was hard-working, exceptionally perceptive and of good humour. He was helpful to me on many occasions. The project is much the poorer for his loss. Andrewa (talk) 21:57, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
