Heme arginate is a heme compound, whereby L-arginine is added to prevent rapid degradation. It is given intravenously, and its action of mechanism is to reduce the overproduction of δ-aminolevulinic acid, which can cause the acute symptoms in an attack of the acute porphyrias. <ref>{{cite journal|last=Volin|first=L|coauthors=V Rasi, E Vahtera and R Tenhunen|title=Heme arginate: effects on hemostasis|journal=Blood Journal|year=1988|volume=71|pages=625-628|url=http://bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/content/71/3/625.full.pdf|accessdate=28 August 2011}}</ref> Heme arginate is a heme compound, whereby ] is added to prevent rapid degradation.
