I do not understand your persistence in introducing Edward Said as an American scholar where as he is clearly a Palestinian Arab born in Jerusalem, and justifying it by "He was born an American because his father had an American passport". As all Palestinians born in Palestine no one of them had a Palestinian passport - not until recently - and this is why there is a conflict because they do not have a country. Therefore, any Palestinian intellectual who was not born very recently will have either a Jordanian passport, an Israeli passport, or other passport, or no citizenship at all as the case for many refugees. This does not make them less Palestinians; in contrary, it is particularly this situation that makes them Palestinians. Also, the text you wrote is quiet complicated to read; there is many "because"; this takes away the fluidity of the text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.14.41 (talk) 15:39, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Dear Editor Number 24.61.14.41 and Editor Number 67.193.134.149:
Edward Saïd was born an American citizen because his father was an American citizen; fighting in the U.S. Army earned Wadie Saïd his American citizenship, it is the gist of the very law you are citing; if you disbelieve me, just ask any Mexican of your acquaintance. Therefore, by petulantly over-simplifying this minor fact, you betray your anti-intellectual prejudice; a hyhenated American usually is a naturalised citizen, which Prof. Saïd was not, again, please read the citizenship laws you claim to know. Moreover, most every international source identifies him as an un-hyphenated American; red-state illogic notwithstanding. Again, follow the logic, the facts that are presented in the article DO NOT support your opinion; sorry. Furthermore, because the article is biographic and historical, the dates are necessary; hence, ". . . then in the Mandate of Palestine" is factually inaccurate, because it denotes that the Mandate of Palestine exists in the 21st century. By the way . . . Have you read any of the sources for this article? Do you know any of the regional history of the Middle East?
As you have cogently noted, Palestinian is not, in this case, a nationality (a flag, a passport, and a national anthem), but a cultural identity; thus my persistence in abiding the facts, Edward Saïd was an American because that was the nationality to which he was born, and the American passport identified him as an American, not as a Palestinian–American. . . .
The typographic and communicational awkwardness of the cumbersome hyphenated nationality is factually untrue, because the introduction is just for historical background facts, not for opinions. I am always amused by the provincial touchiness of the un-hyphenated, “real American” against the “foreign-born” American who is critical of the U.S., wherein the critic is culturally distanced with a hyphenated American identity meant to indicate that “he is not truly one of us”, ’cuz he is critical of the greatest, bestest, country that god deigned to create in the solar system; it is a stealthy, but unsubtle, form of national chauvinism by argumentum ad hominem, i.e. he need not be taken seriously, because what he is saying is “just his opinion”, regardless of the factual substantiation with which he verifies his statements. Oh well.
Moreover, the subjects with which Prof. Saïd dealt are complicated, thus, it is necessary to have “complicated” sentences; this is the reportorial and narrative juncture where Hemingway journalism, such as “a decade-long battle with illness” cliché yields to the full measure of factual information, that is, encyclopædic writing, which tends to full sentences full of boring facts. The “snappy” narrative flow of the text is achieved with active voice, full sentences that each answer the questions of Who?, What?, Where?, When?, Why?, and How?, as they apply to the subject of each sentence; this is elementary respect for the intelligence of the layman reader, who might or might not know as much as we (you and I) know about the subject; thus the required dates identifying the duration of the British colony that was the “Mandate of Palestine”.
The subject of imperialism is a touchy matter, thus our crossing nibs; I suggest you consult Empire and Superempire: Britain, America and the World (2006), by Bernard Porter, an entertaining British book about many of the themes that Magister Edward expounded, yet the historian Porter scoffs at Post-colonialism; it is decent reading, if haphazardly edited. If you wish to correspond, please do so, and I shall reply. By the way, are you a Cambridge townie, or are you a student at John H’s college?
’til then, you have my
Best regards,

Dear Mhazard9:
Edward Said was a Palestinian; this is a fact, not an opinion. He was a Palestinian Arab, born and raised in Palestine, through Palestinian parents. Misplaced Pages is not about producing knowledge within the constraints that this should be codified only in his passport. Who said that he should be only introduced through what is written on his passport? Papers are given by political forces, and by the nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, all Palestinians born in Palestine do not have a Palestinian passport (not until recently and not for all). While introducing him in Misplaced Pages, one tries to give a comprehensive picture of his identity, not with the rule that the knowledge has to be subordinate to the will of the actual ruling political powers. Palestinians - unlike most people in their history - are challenged as to their existence, but the fact is that they do exist - whether you like it or not - and Edward Said is one of them, and should be introduced as such. He was an American citizen, yes. He probably held some Palestinian documents as a former member of the Palestine National Council. If he held a Palestinian passport that was not recognized by Israel and the United States, would you introduce him then as a Palestinian? This is not about his papers, that are only subordinate to some political forces, but this is about producing knowledge about his actual identity. I reiterate what I wrote above to you, and I add: it is not just to define him as only "an American" while he is clearly a Palestinian born and raised in Palestine, through Palestinian parents (if this does not make of him a Palestinian, then what does really?), and as all Palestinians born in Palestine, none of them had a Palestinian passport - not until recently - and this is why there is a conflict because they do not have a country. Again, "Palestinian-American" is by far more adequate, and comprehensive of his whole identity. So that you would be able to justify why you delete "Palestinian" from "Palestinian-American" while introducing him, you would have then to prove that he is not "Palestinian" (then "Palestinian" would have to be deleted from his identity, as you where arguing).
The Subaltern
Dear Mhazard: apologies for my lack of wiki-manners. but I thought the inclusion of Planet of the Apes was pretty glaringly inappropriate, as you can see from the edit to the primary text. It's also readily apparent, that the way it stands now isn't ideal either. I am not looking to start an edit conflict. Consider it a friendly neighborhood reminder. If you have well-thought out reasons why Planet of the Apes is a crucial work for understanding the body Post-Colonial thought. Please do elucidate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.122.97.13 (talk) 02:50, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

What about the above comment is unclear? You haven't substantiated your claim that 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes' is the best possible cinematic reference for continuing research on this topic. The choice seems ironic. Please do enlighten. Your improper use of nonfree images
- The improper use of copyrighted images by Mhazard9!
Use of non-free images on Misplaced Pages is evaluated on an article-by-article basis. A non-free image must satisfy each of the NFCC criteria (especially #8) for each article in which it is used. A non-free image illustrating a biography, for example, may not be used to illustrate a different article in which the bio subject is discussed. Please read WP:NFCC and related policies and guidelines before adding images to articles. "Thematic relevance" is far below our requirements for use of non-free content. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 16:17, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Reply to Mr. H. Wolfowitz:
Your having spoken in the craven plural “Our”, indicates it is best to await your bully-boy boredom to overwhelm you, as you sit (in uniform and Sam Browne belt) and watch for me to restore the thematically pertinent images, and then revert my restoring of the the thematically images when and because of. . . . Neverthenonetheless, the substance of the articles you have vandalised, by removing images that substantiate the text, in the name of the mob, remains faithful, true, and accurate to the factual record. Yet, I recommend you show yourself some self-respect, learn the language of publishing: the coyness of non-free image factually is a copyrighted image.
Remember, you have a moral obligation to be intelligent; do not prostitute your integrity (personal and editorial) in service to the political agenda of your illiberal lessers, i.e. either you lead, you follow, or you get out of the way, because the Appeal to authority is an anti-intellectaul cop-out . . . that contradicts your “harmless old man” biography. Recall Polonius's counsel to his son: "To thine own self be true", and recall that Jimbo Wales, himself, recommends that rules be flouted when they interfere with producing “the best possible article”.

Summary
Description |
This is the front cover art for the book The Wretched of the Earth written by Frantz Fanon. The book cover art copyright is believed to belong to the publisher or the cover artist. |
---|---|
Source |
It is believed that the cover art can or could be obtained from the publisher. |
Article | |
Portion used |
The entire front cover. Because the image is a book cover, a form of product packaging, the entire image is needed to identify the product, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the image. |
Low resolution? |
The copy is of sufficient resolution for commentary and identification but lower resolution than the original book cover. Copies made from it will be of inferior quality, unsuitable as artwork on pirate versions or other uses that would compete with the commercial purpose of the original artwork. |
Purpose of use |
Main infobox. The image is used for identification in the context of critical commentary of the work for which it serves as cover art. It makes a significant contribution to the user's understanding of the article, which could not practically be conveyed by words alone. The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing the work, to show the primary visual image associated with the work, and to help the user quickly identify the work and know they have found what they are looking for. Use for this purpose does not compete with the purposes of the original work, namely the book cover creator's ability to provide book cover design services and in turn marketing books to the public. |
Replaceable? |
As a book cover, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image that shows the packaging of the book would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary. Using a different image in the infobox would be misleading as to the identity of the work. |
Other information |
Use of the book cover in the article complies with Misplaced Pages non-free content policy and fair use under United States copyright law as described above. |

Quotations marks
Hi, just so you know, per MOS:QUOTEMARKS (a Misplaced Pages guideline), curly quotation marks and apostrophes are not recommended at Misplaced Pages. Thank you, Toccata quarta (talk) 20:31, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Response to Toccata quarta:
Yet, neither are they forbidden, are they? So . . . will Misplaced Pages burn down? Let me know, because you incorrectly corrected em-dashes into en-dashes. Please, be consistent when you follow me from page to page, as you are currently doing. I think that is called HARASSMENT, and since we (you and I) do not move in the same editorial circles, I suggest you report this matter to the grocer's clark to whom you report. After all, NOT RECOMMENDED is not equal to FORBIDDEN, is it? Or is that your interpretation of the rules and regulations and the laws and ordinances of Misplaced Pages, and . . . might I now add you to me list of keepers? Oh brother. Get a life, dude.
Let me know.
Best regards,
Mhazard9 (talk) 20:55, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Toccata quarta. I noticed that you made a comment that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Misplaced Pages needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Toccata quarta (talk) 20:59, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- The guideline doesn't say "it is forbidden", but if that is not the implication, then the guideline is meaningless. As for your concept of "harassment", I do not share it in the least. Toccata quarta (talk) 21:01, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Response:
- Well, Toccata quarta, you are incorrect, and too thin of skin, because, if you follow me throughout, and nickel-and-dime me over quoatation marks, I can deal with that. Yet, to take umbrage at being corrected is silly. Moreover, NOT RECOMMENDED does not mean FORBIDDEN, it means NOT RECOMMENDED. My response was not uncivil, it was plain and to the point, you are FOLLOWING me from page to page and . . . to what end? Especially, because you made a grammatical mistake that a punctuation martinet SHOULD not have made; red wine with fish, as it were.
- I am willing to get along with you, but, if you cannot handle adult editorial discourse, then report to whomever sent you. . . . Really, man, YOUR interpretation of NOT RECOMMENDED equals forbidden, and you cop out with a complaint that I hurt your feelings? Egads, man, publishing is a rough game, just like pinochle. I posted to your page so that you would be informed, I did not mean to be uncivil towards you, especially not by addressing you in adult language about your mistakes. Consult an unabridged (book) dictionary, and you shall there learn that NOT RECOMMENDED and FORBIDDEN ain’t synonymous. Respect and be respected, disrespect and you shall be disrespected, that is, speak for yourself, do not speak in the plural, it is weasel behaviour. Respect yourself by speaking for your self.
Best regards,
Mhazard9 (talk) 21:13, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

I don't disagree with the main tenor of your edit, but personal examples don't belong in our articles. Read WP:NOR. April 2013
Hello Mhazard9, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. While we appreciate your contributing to Misplaced Pages, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Misplaced Pages:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Misplaced Pages:Copyrights. You may also want to review Misplaced Pages:Copy-paste.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Misplaced Pages:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Misplaced Pages articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Misplaced Pages project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Misplaced Pages:Copying within Misplaced Pages.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. How is this not a copyright violation? Dougweller (talk) 19:10, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
RESPONSE
Dear Dougweller:
Thanks for watching me work in order that the Political Correctness article answer the Who? What? Where? When? and How? questions of the readers. Yet, the legalistic arguments you presented contradict the editorial purpose of the Misplaced Pages publishing enterprise, which is the production of a subject article that is faithful, true, and accurate to the FACTS of the subject matter. Your especially dogmatic application of the rules to my contributions indicate that you consider the rules as more important that the reality they are meant to regulate, that is, the ARTICLE proper. Furthermore, you provided no examples of where or how I have violated the rules you have so faithfully quoted to me.
Moreover, the coincidental (?) presence of a back-up editor when You revert my contributions, whilst I am still working on the article, bespeaks your BAD FAITH in dealing with me, the Wikipedian Mhazard9. This behaviour of yours, as a Misplaced Pages Editor and as a Misplaced Pages Administrator, in FIGHTING me over the SUBSTANTIVE EXPANSION of a lame article bespeaks "Gatekeeper"; you have done so on two occasions, in order to restore ungrammatical and disconnected text, which does not reflect the content of the article it supposedly summarises. Please remember, that the Political Correctness article used to be a FEATURED ARTICLE, until . . . it just fell apart, all by itself!
As proof that you, the Misplaced Pages Adminstrator Dougweller, are acting as a Gatekeeper for the Political Correctness article, is that your back-up-editor pal FORGOT to restore the requisite bold-text typography innate to the article's introduction, which is a very, very minor VIOLATION of the Misplaced Pages rules, regulations, laws, and ordinances, which I corrected for you law & order people, at no charge. I guess your assistant just forgot to do the job right, whilst his edit summary said that I did not do the job right. Bullshit is a bitch, is it not?
As you can see, in the Edit History, and with the extensive, heavy-handed rules-quotation, this is not and editorial disagreement, but a personality conflict that you threaten to inflate into an edit war. Proof of this is in you, and company, reverting my contributions within SECONDS of my saving my work. Please, STAY on TOPIC, be specific and give examples of where my contributions are unfaithful, untrue, and inaccurate to the subject of the article. I say this, because, as a Misplaced Pages Administrator, you KNOW BETTER than to play such hair-splitting mind games; after all, it is only a Misplaced Pages article, not a matter of life and death. Correct?
The quotation that has upset you is not a copyright violation, because it is attributed in full, etc., etc., etc., and fully substantiates the rest of the text, especially the right-wing Cultural Marxism charges made by Patrick Buchanan, thus it is a super special (ca. 221-word) exception to your rules, because it provides the REQUIRED CONTEXT, otherwise, as You said in your edit-summary of your reversion of my contributions, some parts might be too recondite for the layman reader. So, Mr Dougweller, LIGHTEN UP, its only a Misplaced Pages article.
I shall continue to substantiate the article, and shall continue to banter with you as you require, because my editorial goal is to re-establish Political Correctness as a Featured Article, not a struggle with you at Reichenbach. You are welcome to join me. Moreover, at the risk of copping out on this very, very precious matter of yours, Jimbo Wales has repeatedly enjoined Wikipedians to ignore all rules that get in the way of producing an article that is factual, faithful, true, and accurate to the subject.
Best regards,

Mhazard9, again, please take controversial changes to talk rather than warring them in. I will be forced to report you if you do not stop. Also, your edit summaries do not say what you are doing. North8000 (talk) 13:07, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Dear North8000,
Please, be specific and give examples of what you call controversial edits; otherwise, I do not know whereof you speak. Are you speaking for yourself? Are you speaking for Dougweller, your sponsor in this editorial war? Are you for real, dude? It is very telling that, again, like your sponsor, you resort to THREATS, such as “I will be forced to report you if you do not stop”, meaning what? Is someone physically and psychologically compelling you to report me for NOT OBEYING YOU in correcting poor, opinionated writing?
Again, BE SPECIFIC and GIVE EXAMPLES of so-called controversial edits. There is no edit war, I have not read any substantive contribution by you, North8000, other than opinions in an edit summary; in the wrong place, at that.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way, please! You have spent days harassing me with FAKE edit-war nonsense in the edit summaries, rather than in the talk page . . . so, you are incredible. Again, SPECIFIC EXAMPLES of my incorrect and inaccurate, untrue and false edits would help your credibility as an editor PARTICIPATING in the substantive editorial development of the Political Correctness article. Currently, the Introduction communicates the content of the article; likewise the image.
Show some self-respect, laddie, do not lend your voice to another man's quarrel, unless you choose to bleed for him, because he had others do his work for him. Since I was blocked for twenty-four hours, YOU, North8000, have harassed me, with reverts of substantiated work, since your sponsor won A battle; the EDIT HISTORY confirms my veracity in this matter.
My edit summaries are brief, because they are . . . summaries. Read the comparisons, that is to say, do your own work. I cannot do your reading for you.
Best regards,
Mhazard9 (talk) 18:34, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- You have copied my post and your above comment to many different places; others have pared that back but it is still in at least 2 different places. I responded on the one at my talk page. North8000 (talk) 11:23, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Political correctness, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Orthodox and Power (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I am no one's sponsor
I'd appreciate it if you'd retract that statement. Also, as I've said at the PC talk page, don't copy people's edits there in that way without their permission. Besides being copyvio, it makes it appear that they wrote that edit on a page where they didn't. I've removed all of your post at Talk:PC as it is abut another editor and not about the article. And yes, your edit summaries are inadequate at times - I'm sure you can be brief while at the same time explaining more clearly what you are doing. Dougweller (talk) 20:54, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Note - you aren't being harassed, so please stop making accusations that you are. Dougweller (talk) 20:58, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Edward Said may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Edward Said
Hello Mhazard9. It looks like you are trying to make some improvements in this article, but you and User:BernardZ have been reverting each other. It is best if both of you participate at Talk:Edward Said to discuss the rationale for your changes. I have asked him to join in as well. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 02:26, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Response:
Dear Ed Johnston,
I agree, however, Mr. Bernard Z. is a (paid?) lobbyist-editor; his edit history is almost exclusively composed of deletions of anything critical of Israel; oy vey, what a thin skin! His insistence upon playing the "I just don't like it" game ("I WANT PROOF!) confirms this; review the Edward Saïd edit history. Especially in the personal criticism sub-section, Character Assassination, Mr. Bernard Z insists on deleting the substantiated topic sentence, derived from the text it introduces, which is supported with the sources he and the Editor Davidiad, another Israel lobbysist-editor, demanded that I provide for them. . . .
So, despite my having done their editorial work for them, they insist with the "I just don't like it" nonsense; thus, in good faith, I have restored the substantiated text, which was rated as a Good Article by disinterested editors. Personally, I think that the Character Assassination sub-section is irrelevant to Edward Saïd's biography and to the subject of Orientalism, because, IN REAL LIFE Counsellor Weiner's character-assassination claims proved untrue; thus my earlier recommendation of "a diligent reading" of the JOURNALISM sources — easy reading, especially for lobbyists.
In think, that, despite my having done the editorial work on that sub-section, its presence constitutes UNDUE WEIGHT to a very minor quibble, by a two-bit nobody-lawyer who has (since the late 1990s, when this "controversial" matter was "news") remained a two-bit schmoe. If you disbelieve me, review the discussion in the JUSTUS WEINER article; besides being briefly famous (for 14.99 mins.) for attacking the family of Edward Saïd, Weiner is inconsequential in Misplaced Pages, the U.S., and the world. Still, I shall restore the substantiated text, which faithfully, truthfully, and accurately depicts the falsity of Mr. Weiner and his claims.
Because Mr. Bernard Z is grinding an ideologic axe against Edward Saïd, witness his vandalism of substantiated text, he and I are engaged in a typically petty edit-war about his reactionary misrepresentation of an historical reality external to Misplaced Pages. Bernard Z's factual misrepresentations correspond with the misrepresentations of Justus Weiner, who, in turn, discredited himself almost twenty years ago.
Most recently, the Editor Sindinero recommended to Bernard Z that he should participate with FACTS; I agree with the recommendation. Meantime, I have restored the substantiated text of the Character Assassination sub-section, because it is faithful, true, and accurate to the biographic facts of the dead Edward Saĩd.
Moreover, I shall post this communication about the Edward Said biography to that Talk page.
Let me know.
Best regards,

Please stop your disruptive editing, as you did at Postcolonialism. Your edits have been reverted or removed.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Misplaced Pages's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, seek assistance at Misplaced Pages's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively may result in your being blocked from editing. If you again restore an NFCC violation to this or any other article, or continue to use edit summaries which do not accurately tell other editors what you have done, or make inappropriate accusations of vandalism against an editor who disagrees with you in a content dispute, I will file a complaint asking for aa long=term suspension of your editing privileges. Given your block history, and the repeated warnings on your talk page, it is now abundantly clear that your failure to comply to applicable policies, guidelines and practices is purposeful.Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 02:32, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
