John Dillinger
Hi. I noted your edits to this article and had a couple questions. I have no issue with the removal of the legends and questions sections. I am wondering, though, why you removed things that may have been misattributed to a source instead of adding a fact or verification tag so that other sourcing could be sought. I'm sure facts like the John Dillinger Day and what happened to his body after he died can be easily sourced and I'm positive that sourcing can be found for the vandalism to his gravestone is available. The last few days, it has been all we can do to keep the rampant vandalism off his page, so I'm thinking Crown Hill Cemetery has its hands more than full with the gravestone itself, though at the moment it is intact. Thank you. Wildhartlivie (talk) 07:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- With the article being highly exposed to vandalism and questionable insertions of various kinds, and with Dillinger being the subject of so much folklore and urban legends, my view is that we should default to remove unsourced material. But if you feel confident to restore any of the removed statements and you think that it's better to have them with a "citation needed" template than to not have them, please feel free to do so. I know the John Dillinger Died For You Society has some real world existence, for example, I don't know exactly how notable or real, though.--Eloquence* 07:22, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was about to start an upload of an image of Dillinger's grave, which clearly shows some of the chipping away. I added some sourcing that supported that content and updated the cemetery link to one that specifically gives Dillinger's name and lot numbers. I'll work on the rest. The John Dillinger Died for You Society gets a little press every year and puts on some events. There's plenty of sourcing out there. There are at least three of us who are watching the article all the time right now and it has been semi-protected temporarily due to wholesale vandalism the first few days, but that will expire soon. Not a lot of garbage has made its way on the page yet. Regards. Wildhartlivie (talk) 08:34, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
File source problem with File:Priapus.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Priapus.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:12, 11 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 01:12, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:LITF-Filming.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:LITF-Filming.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:22, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
File:BrassEye-MilitPede.jpg
I have tagged File:BrassEye-MilitPede.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Misplaced Pages policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Misplaced Pages:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Thank you for the correction
After having perused the Form 990 submitted in 2008, via the link to the .PDF which you posted to my Talk page, I have concluded that I was essentially duped by the remarks made by Thekohser, which I made the mistake of assuming could be taken at face value. Use of shortcut for licenses in copyright warning
To reduce the size of the copyright warning, it's been suggested to use the shortcut of the creative commons license, as we do with the GFDL, thus change "the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License 3.0 and the GFDL" to "the CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL 1.3". Is this acceptable ? Thanks, Cenarium (talk) 22:23, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah; I'd suggest changing it to "CC-BY-SA 3.0 License" so that the word "License" appears at least once.--Eloquence* 01:03, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Using Templates as Variables
I googled "templates as variables" and found your remark from a while back. I'm pondering that very question at the moment and would be interested to hear anyone's thought on that. Should you use templates as variables in Misplaced Pages? In a wiki in general? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks for any time spent on this! --193.254.155.48 (talk) 16:05, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of IACERHRG
The article IACERHRG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
IACERHRG – news, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.
While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Abductive (reasoning) 06:07, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Soft deleted
A tag has been placed on Template:Soft deleted requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section T2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an unambiguous misrepresentation of established policy.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mhiji 23:03, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Jean-Baptiste van Mour005
Hi,The imege Jean-Baptiste van Mour005.jpg which was uploaded by you has been used in several articiles. (Also the painting 006 which is similar) But in the captions, it is claimed that the name of the sultan in the painting is Ahmet III in 1699 which is impossible for Ahmet III was enthroned in 1703. (The painter spent a part of his life in İstanbul after 1699. So the painting may represent a later date) Either the name of the sultan or the date is incorrect. (see Talk:Charles de Ferriol) I incline to believe that the date is incorrect. Any complementary information ? Thanks. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 09:57, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid, Erik, that I am not sincerely awarding this Real Life Barnstar to you. This is in fact just a test. Having said that, I do commend you for your many accomplishments :-) Sue Gardner (talk) 21:27, 20 April 2011 (UTC) |

Some stroopwafels for you!
Thanks for the wikilove filter in recentchanges! Ijon (talk) 22:46, 30 June 2011 (UTC) |
Filter 423
You don't need to tag the edits to track usage of the WikiLove tool. It will still be logged in the abuse log, and this way people's (and especially new users') edits won't show up as possible vandalism in antivandal tools. Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:31, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Reaper,
- the RC view is somewhat more familiar and accessible than the edit filter view, but if the tagging gets in the way of abuse work, I agree that we're better off without it.--Eloquence* 02:10, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
The Technical Barnstar | |
Wikilove is _excellent_ work. It's so exciting to see the foundation really starting to get in gear-- it seems like every day you all are unveiling some other new nifty feature, social innovation, or technical achievement. Good work to you and Howie and all others involved. Alecmconroy (talk) 06:29, 1 July 2011 (UTC) |
- Thanks! Credit goes to Kaldari, Krinkle, Jorm and JanPaul123, who are the key folks who made this one happen. It's an experiment -- let's hope it makes a difference. :-) Eloquence* 06:48, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Tried sending you one, did not work
See thread for details. maybe leave me one using the image I showed in thread. I used the file title, not the url.TCO (talk) 21:29, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
WL filter
Until we have a better tracker for it, please keep it enabled, unless it's doing any demonstrable harm (it's just logging at this point). It's referenced from a few places and people are using it.--Eloquence* 04:37, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
- The edit filter can only make 1000 checks per edit (the condition limit). The number of checks varies per edit depending on what parts of filters match, and scales with the number of filters. This filter is using some of those limited number of conditions (probably around 3 or so), but it could easily be replaced with a bot or toolserver tool, since the edit summary field is easily available on the toolserver. The edit filter should only be used for things that need to be checked as the edit is made, or that cannot be identified from the toolserver (i.e. the content of the edit). - I'd appreciate a response. Prodego 16:31, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Prodego. I understand the argument, but it seems fine as an interim solution. We're exploring a few different ways to surface the data collected by the extension.--Eloquence* 20:48, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
A kitten for you!
Hm, interesting extension

Need your help
hello,
I saw your uploads of photos by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, which were from Library of Congress. Could you upload this picture? The infobox picture depiciting John Coltrane has been recently removed, and I wonder if you could do the same for this file. Thanks.--♫Greatorangepumpkin♫Share–a–Power 18:20, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Being Born Again Couture Fashion Show - assistance
Hi Eloquence, Thank you for your input. Your category edit did not work: (add Category:Article Feedback Blacklist to hide AFT from Main Page (should also work if it's in an appropriate template)) on http://en.wikipedia.org/Being_Born_Again_Couture_Fashion_Show. Was it supposed to hide the banners? Can you or someone knowledgeable about this topic about this fashion show edit it please? Thanks Domenico.y (talk) 00:24, 29 August 2011 (UTC) Domenico.y
