If you have any questions, let me know Worm · (talk) 12:50, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Oh and by the way, I'm an adopter if you're still looking ;) Worm · (talk) 12:50, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Adoption

Indeed I can! In fact. I just have. I'll update your user page with the right box and we're away. A couple of questions first - What are you expecting from adoption? What are you expecting from wikipedia? I do run a little adoption school - so I'll set you up there too Worm · (talk) 13:55, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Right, you now have an official adoption page at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/The computer rocks!. It has an associated talk page, where you can have any discussions with me - especially ones you'd rather keep out of obvious view (rants, questions you might feel uncomfortable asking etc). I've had a look through your contributions, and it's so far so good, which is good to see. Templates, I do a whole module in, they're pretty easy once you get your head around the markup and what they are. Any questions you have about anything, please do ask - I will do my best to answer. Otherwise, I look forward to our time together as Adopter and Adoptee. Worm · (talk) 14:10, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Surprisingly I understand taxoboxes more than taxonomy itself! I'm a touch busy with some meetings today, but have a look at Template:Taxobox. If that doesn't help, I'll be around in a few hours to explain more. Worm · (talk)
Right, I'm out of a meeting for a bit - ugh that's exhausting - But if you're curious about templates perhaps you could have a look at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Templates or User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Template beginner, both of which explain what a template is and how it works. It'll be a module if you are alright going through the adoption school, but it should teach you quite a bit. Otherwise, nip to the Template:Taxobox page, and copy the relevant taxobox template including the curly braces to the page you want. Fill in the fields and you're away. You can always have a go in a sand box, a page you can edit without worrying about getting it wrong. Worm · (talk) 14:47, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
It's a bit weird that, most people don't have their page vandalised until they start annoying the vandals - generally by reverting their edits. The only things I can think of is that you got caught by someone who doesn't like science or someone who doesn't like your sports team. More likely the latter. It's one of those things, try to move on :) Worm · (talk) 08:09, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
You can change your password by clicking on "My Preferences" at the top of the screen. It's an option on the first page. Generally a good idea to have an email added too, so you can recover a password if you forget. Worm · (talk) 16:33, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
I've replied on my talk page - give me a few moments. Worm · (talk) 17:07, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Congratulations on the 100th edit! Worm · (talk) 19:45, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Well done on the 200th edit! less than 24 hours, that's very impressive. Although there are some editors that work at that speed, Misplaced Pages isn't a race, so make sure you're being thorough. For example, I think you might be suffering a little from "Overlinking" - linking to articles which need not be linked to. Words that you'd expect the majority of readers to know do not need to be linked, nor does the same term multiple times in an article. But if you're interested in this sort of work, how about you look at WP:WIKIFY, a wiki-project dedicated to making articles look their best. It's a great time to join, they've just started a drive! Worm · (talk) 20:26, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Ko Olina

Hi The computer rocks! Don't worry too much - this is all sortable. Basically, there's a few problems about what you've done.

  • Before anything gets moved it's often a good idea to suggest it to the community, so that people can discuss the move. If it's agreed - then...
  • Moves should be done using the "move" function. The way you did it (copying and pasting) loses the attribution of work - meaning that it doesn't comply to the license wikipedia works under.

So to sort it out, I've requested both new articles be speedy deleted, and I'm going to suggest you mozey over to Requested moves to see if there's consensus for the move. If you've got an questions about the process, let me know. Worm · (talk) 17:13, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of KoOlina Resort and Marina

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on KoOlina Resort and Marina requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. —KuyaBriBri 16:48, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Curiosity (Show)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Curiosity (Show) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

--Peaceworld 20:20, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Desert Car Kings

The article Desert Car Kings has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No significant coverage in reliable sources, excluding blogs and purely promotional media; no indication of notability.

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Mephistophelian 21:12, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Adopter Sockpuppeting?

My adopter is User:Worm that Turned. User:Worm that Turned 1 account got blocked. Is he sockpuppeting? http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Worm_that_Turned_1 http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Worm_That_Turned — Preceding unsigned comment added by The computer rocks! (talkcontribs) 22:01, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

You may have blocked Worm that Turned's possible (not sure) alternative/doppelgänger. Note I'm not sure; best to ask a CU. --Bsadowski1 22:10, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
(edit conflict) user:Worm that Turned 1 was created in close succession with with user:Worm that Turned 2, user:Worm that Turned 3 and user:Worm that Turned 4. Since there was no clear reason for creating multiple accounts - let alone creating them at high speed, and because the account name that was incredibly similar to a excising contributer i blocked the entire batch. User:Worm That Turned himself is not blocked. (Edit: @Bsadowski1 - if it was one account i wouldn't have leaped in like that - Unfortunately it was not just 1 account, there were actually four. I cannot directly think of a reason why someone would need four Doppler's, or why so many would have to be created rapid succession, without using the create account interface from the main account that at least signals they would belong to him.)
@The computer rocks!: What i wonder though - How did you notice that the account(s) were blocked? I took care of them right of the new user list, so there was no report about them being created elsewhere as far as i am aware. Excirial 22:15, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi The computer rocks!. No, I'm not sockpuppeting, though I'm surprised you've heard of the term as a new user. There are actually legitimate uses of alternative accounts, and since they hold the same name as me they could well fit under one of those uses... if they were me. As it happens, the 4 new accounts were nothing to do with me, instead it was someone impersonating me. Suprising, I didn't think I'd done enough to be noticed. So don't worry too much about it Worm · (talk) 07:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Cheers Tcr! I was actually well aware of my latest clone, but the powers that be are stopping him in his tracks much faster than I could, so I'm just following the I in WP:RBI. In other words, ignore it, boredom will strike soon enough. Worm · (talk) 07:36, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Reviewer

Do you think I should be a good reviewer? The computer rocks! (talk) 23:54, 5 April 2011 (UTC) http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Requests_for_permissions/Reviewer

Reviewing edits is quite similar to vandalism patrol, and as of such it is good to have some basic experience with vandalism patrol before requesting reviewer rights. At first it can be tricky to determine what is vandalism, and what is a good faith edit. Thus i would advice to get some basic vandalism patrol experience with twinkle or lupin first - this equally allows you to demonstrate that you are aware what vandalism is, and what isn't. After doing that for a while (And in case you enjoy it of course), you could request reviewer rights. If you really enjoy vandalism patrol, you may equally wish to request WP:rollback and switch to WP:Huggle. Either way, good luck patrolling a bit if you choose to do so. :) Excirial 07:52, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Bots

Hi Tcm! I've been having a look into bots for you. If you've got any questions, the people to ask are Misplaced Pages:Bot Approvals Group listed here, they approve or disallow any new bots, or new tasks for old bots. To create a bot, you'd need to be a little more experienced with Misplaced Pages (I'd expect you to get to at least 1k-2k edits, so you know your way round), and you need to be familiar with scripting languages. I'm a Java programmer by trade and I'm unwilling to get too involved in bots! As for your questions about anti-vandalism bots, head on over to User:Cluebot, where they may be able to answer questions. I doubt they will be able to give you specifics, as it is sensitive information (you don't want to tell users how to damage the encyclopedia, per WP:BEANS). There's a lot of good ideas to combat the vandalism, and once you have a good solid base of countering it yourself, you should be able to come up with some helpful ideas. Worm · (talk) 13:35, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

How are you getting on?

Hi Tcr! Just thought I'd leave you a little note to see how you were getting along. Haven't heard from you in a little while - hoping you're coping. If you've got any questions, let me know. Worm · (talk) 10:00, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Glad you're feeling better, hopefully see you around and about :) Let me know if you've got any questions or anything. Oh and don't forget about your adoption page ;) Worm · (talk) 10:01, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
