LocationLondon, England

The wedding of Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton is due to take place in 2011.

On 16 November 2010, Clarence House announced that Prince William would marry Kate Middleton in the spring or summer of 2011. The couple became engaged in October 2010 while on a private holiday in Kenya.

Reaction to the announcement

Prince Charles, on a visit to Poundbury, Dorchester, said he is "obviously thrilled." The confirmation of the announcement explained that the Queen was happy for the couple.

British Prime Minister David Cameron received the news while in a meeting of the Cabinet, and there was a "great cheer and a great banging of the table" from the assembled ministers. He stated later outside Number 10 Downing Street that it was "incredibly exciting news." He also said "it's great to have a piece of unadulterated good news."

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said he is "so thrilled for Prince William and Kate Middleton on this fantastic news."

Shortly after the announcement, the first official photos of the couple were released to the public.
