The village is part of the Purleigh ward of the Maldon district.
History
At the time of the Domesday survey, the manor house, Purleigh Hall, was owned by Eustace, Earl of Bologne. There are extensive vineyards in Purleigh, owned and operated by New Hall Vineyards. The firm was established in 1969 and produces c. 250,000 bottles a year.
Local amenities
There are two public houses, The Bell and The Fox and Hounds. The Bell is a 14 century building that was refurbished in the 16 century.
The local school is Purleigh Community Primary School .
Religious sites
The parish church is All Saints. It is of 14century origin
