Teen Podcasters Network

The wikipedia article for the Teen Podcasters Network is not an advertisement. We are simple trying to get our name out. --Apache119

Sounds like a good definition of an advertisment to me. --GraemeL 21:06, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

My article on Fraulein was not vandalism. The term still exists in contemporary usage.

basically every page on this website is an "advertisement" for whatever it's about. you can't just pick and choose arbitrarily which ones are allowed and which aren't.

Fast films

Yes it can be done, and actually already has. See Misplaced Pages:Votes_for_deletion/Father_and_Son_Tuesday. Niteowlneils 23:05, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

The one other thing to do is make sure the other articles link to the single VfD discussion page (ie Jeremy Duncan links to Misplaced Pages:Votes for deletion/Father and Son Tuesday instead of Misplaced Pages:Votes for deletion/Jeremy Duncan). Niteowlneils 23:42, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
Sorry not to have responded; I was in the middle of a long and irritating counter-vandalism exercise, and I didn't see your question until too late. I'm glad that you have it sorted out. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:30, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

Russell Grant

ROFL. In all honesty - so do I but, I reckoned it fair for the "Little Astrology Prince". Boy I was tempted to have the Russell Grant link show "Big Astrology Queen". ;) Alf 19:41, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

Did not know

I did not know about the three revert rule so I apologize. I reverted the edits because they are untrue and not relevant to the bio of the person named Rodney Howard-Browne. If I wanted to discuss the changes and so-forth where would I do that? I see the changes to the bio as unproven and the sources are not factual but rather random and pulled from many different websites and thrown into the bio producing incoherent and confusing information. I am a stickler for the truth and having followed Rodney Howard-Browne for many years I would like to convey to the wikipedia user the truth not unresearched and unproven information.

Hi. When making changes you need to remember that wikipedia is an encyclopedia and articles need to maintain a neutral point of view. Phrases like "When people encounter the presence of God, they are saved, healed, set free, and delivered" don't conform to this standard. This is why your changes kept getting reverted. Looking at the existing article, I don't feel it was neutral, even before your changes.
If you want to discuss changes then you should do it at the articles talk page. The talk page link is red at the moment, which means it is empty. Since nobody has talked about the entry in the past, you may find that nobody is interested in watching it.
I'm pretty new here myself and not sure as to the best way for you to move forward with changing the Rodney Howard-Browne article into a good one. You are probably best asking for advice at the Help desk.
You will also probably be taken more seriously if you create your own account. Rather than editing the articles from an anonymous IP address. Hope this all helps.

Nice job sheepdogging that VfD notice and leaving a warning on the user's talk page. I see also that you're doing a nice job vandal-fighting in general. Keep it up. Fernando Rizo T/C 17:34, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Looks like the right David Jasper is there now. I should have checked more carefully - never occurred to me that there might be two people with a relatively uncommon name in a relatively specialised field. Dlyons493 18:04, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

Hardy Boys

I do intend to follow the thing through. You are right by the way, it is spread over too many locations - though I believe everything should be brought together on FWDixon. Block my IP fro editing pages

All the problems tha have come from this IP are becouse it is a school, some kids here will undoughtedly edit a page not helping wikipedia (such as arlier i got a message they were adding "fuck you" to pages and making edits that mostly deleted) so your better off to just blok it from editing.

  • I have added a Keep vote and a comment on the VfD. If you could take a moment and decide whether or not you think it's enough to change your vote I'd appreciate it. Wikibofh 23:53, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

Itrw

On Itrw I beg to differ on your reverting. The content removed was completely unrelated to the article's title. Such entry is being subject of controversy between several wikipedians and Rktect, that he keeps adding content to entries without regard of the entry (the html comment I left is an example that he's just copying from other places as it tells you to look at a differnet article which is this same article). For more documentation look at: , , and User:Drini/Rktect. AS you also do RC patrolling, I want to mention that Rktect usually accuses of vandalism those who revert his additions (see on those urls for evidence that many users revert his additions). -- (drini|) 21:14, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. You might want to tidy up that comment a bit if you're going to use it as it looks a lot like some vandal spam in its current form. I'll add you to my whitelist in cdvf. --GraemeL 21:33, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Just so you get the whole picture, take a look at Drini's contributions. Then look at Egils, Genes and Kens. They argue the pages are all the same and should be deleted en mass, but then they revert them removing the wikification, remove the content that is other than they claim it is,(tag and remove the images most of which I took myself and have registered with wikipedia)remove the references and leave the pages a shambles. That is just plain slimy. Take a look at the history of the page and what you should see is

a better page reverted to a poorer page in almost every case. Rktect 03:41, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

Yes I am, I'm plaining to file an RfC but I'm very busy this week and the next so progress is going slowly (as I have to check hundreds of diffs). -- (drini|) 23:30, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

I just reverted it again. It's been over 3 hours since he made the last change. The vandalism came from an AoL proxy. Hopefully, he's gotten bored by now. I wouldn't worry about asking for a lock on the page unless he starts up again. --GraemeL 23:47, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

about my post

I added a link to the Ultima Online section of wiki for Tradespot and you removed it and sent me a message saying not to put commercial links on the site. That site is not commercial at all, it's a free bulletin board where people can go to trade in game items. It is very popular and should be on the list... http://uo.tradespot.net/

I apologize. I admit that I only took a cursory look at the site to determine its worth. Please feel free to re-add the link. --GraemeL 18:45, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Dividend Reinvestment Program

I added an external link to http://en.wikipedia.org/Dividend_reinvestment_program, but was told that it was inappropriate. However, there is a link to a commercial site on that page. Why is the link to the commercial investment site acceptable, but a link to a non-commercial site which is completely about the subject deemed unacceptable?

Thank you -

George L Smyth

I was doing what is known as RC (Recent Change) Patrol. When doing this, I don't normally review all of the links on the page, just the recently added one. I will do a more thorough analysis of the external links from the page and remove all of the ones that appear to be in contravention of Misplaced Pages policy. --GraemeL 19:34, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
Analysis done. Currently, the only external link from the page is to The Motley Fool, which is a widely quoted industry source. --GraemeL 19:39, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. When I went to The Motley Fool link, the page was displayed for about one second, then was covered with the following:

"Sign up for FREE Motley Fool site access! (Already registered? Sign in Here.)

This feature requires registration with The Motley Fool. Simply type in your email address for full access to our spin-free take on the market, money-making stock ideas, and weekly best-of email. You'll also receive periodic special offers from the Fool and our trusted partners."

My recommendation is that external links to public sites that require registration and subsequent "offers" from "trusted partners" be reconsidered.

Thank you for your time -

User 192.206.243.9

I noticed you placed a warning on his/her page regarding vandalism. After that another page (personal digital assistant) was "molested." Furthermore, in the past this IP has been blocked for the same thing.

  • Your account has been blocked for 24 hours for repeated vandalism. Exploding Boy 22:16, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)
  • This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page you will be blocked from editing.  – Jrdioko (Talk) 19:22, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Would it be possible to block this IP indefinitely? Please advise. Kind regard. Have left another request at Smoddy who also left a warning in the past. --Nomen Nescio 20:09, August 31, 2005 (UTC)

I am not an admin, I just do me bit of RC patrol like many others. If you feel that the IP should be banned, try posting it to WP:VIP. Alternatively, join the IRC channel linked on my user page. There are usualy admins there who are willing to apply a block after a user/IP has been warned. --GraemeL 20:23, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Commercial Links?

Hi,

I see you removed a link I put on the Derren Brown page. Is it really the case that there are no links to commercial sites within Misplaced Pages? I think a lot of people viewing the page are people looking to learn Mindreading, and since there are no free resources on the net, is it not better to have a commercial one (which is much cheaper than similar beginners guides)?

thanks, Mike

Hi Mike. Please see point 3 in What Misplaced Pages is Not for the official policy. If we allowed you to put your link on the page, we would have to allow all similar links to be added and would run the danger of just becoming a web directory. However, I would like to thank you for your mature response. Often people resort to just re-adding their link, or inserting it into multiple pages. This just ends up with them being blocked from making further changes. --GraemeL 20:00, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Billy Joel Link

I keep changing the Official Billy Joel site to my link because someone keeps removing the link to my Billy Joel page.

How else can I make sure that it remains on the site?

I do it this way to mask it, so that it doesn't keep getting erased, so easily.

The content of the page is basically up to the people interested in maintaining it. As for linking to your own site, please read WWiN. --GraemeL 15:47, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

general lee

re the revert to that link at general lee, was it just the formatting you objected to? i'm reading the article, and it looks like one of the best i've seen about the general lee. you have any objection if i add it with good formatting? would eventually like to add some of the info from it to the article. thanks. It was linkspam I was getting rid of. You can see the changes from this diff. If you think the link is valuable, then feel free to re-add it. --GraemeL 17:16, 3 Setember 2005 (UTC)

Davie Cooper

I've been working on copy editing the Davie Cooper entry. The more I get into the article, the more it reads like a history of the Bankies from the period. I'm seriously considering taking a hatchet to it and trimming it down to just the parts relevant to Davie. Comments? --GraemeL 21:26, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Alright. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Just looking at the article, it gives as much information about Clydebank as it does Davie himself so yes it's probably a good idea to trim it down a little. It's a well written article but I don't think that level of detailed information is needed. Forbsey 16:18, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

Trollderella

Hi Graeme

Nice to see a voice of reason in this madhouse of WP. Thanks for your sane comment, a breath of fresh air. I have little faith in this organ for information, it seems to be censored (not surprisingly) by those in control =:-(

Cheers

Thanks. As with any large group of people, politics tends to creep in. I try to maintain an open mind, though it's not always easy. The problem is not those in control. Nobody is in control, which makes things interesting on occasion. The RfC will probably eventually reach a consensus and a solution to the original problem. --GraemeL 18:49, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
