The Coronas are a four-piece Rock/Indie/Alternative band from Terenure, Dublin, Ireland.
Band Information
The band originally formed when the members were just 15 and students in Terenure College. The band was initially known as 'Kiros' but changed its name and line-up three years later to 'Corona'. When the Italian dance act Corona re-emerged, the band changed their name again to 'The Coronas'.
The band's debut album Heroes Or Ghosts was released on the 5th of October 2007, debuting at no. 21 in the Irish album charts , however it was criticised as being 'lyrically weak' and 'riddled' with 'road-weary, time-worn cliches'.
The band have appeared on RTE's Late Late Show and The Cafe, TV3's event guide, Channel 6's Popscene and numerous radio shows. The band won the Jack Daniels Set, showcasing new bands, in 2006.
They hail from Terenure in Dublin, home to fellow artists Republic of Loose and Rob Smith. Danny O'Reilly's mother is acclaimed Irish vocalist Mary Black, and his father is Joe O'Reilly of Dara Records (both parents are also connected to the band's label, 3ΓΊ).
The Coronas are nominated for a Meteor Ireland Music Award. They are in the Best Irish Pop Act category and up against Bell X1, The Blizzards, Brian McFadden, Roisin Murphy and Westlife.
