Leonard R. Brand

Leonard Brand is an American geologist who specializes in taphonomy, ichnology, vertebrate paleontology, mammalogy, and philosophy of science. His research has focused on experimental taphonomy of vertebrates, fossil trackways of the Permian Coconino Sandstone in Arizona, taphonomy and paleoecology of the Eocene Bridger Formation in southwest Wyoming, and taphonomy of fossil whales in the Miocene/Pliocene Pisco Formation of Peru.

Brand received his Ph.D. in Biology from Cornell University in 1970. He is presently a professor of biology and paleontology in the Department of Earth and Biological Sciences (School of Science and Technology) at Loma Linda University. He was the chair of the department until 2000. Brand is also a creationist and proponent of Intelligent Design.
