We seem to have many "fake" Sign ups. Perhaps best to ask for confirmation on talks see if accounts are actually active? Moxy🍁 20:52, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

How do we tell if the sign ups are fake? I do notice that there are a lot of new accounts, but I was thinking that was just because the banner appears to all users, regardless of whether or not they are logged in. ARandomName123 (talk) 21:04, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
Lets set page up for :"Extended confirmed users" only? Moxy🍁 21:32, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
I would strongly oppose restricting sign ups to extended confirmed users only, if that's what you mean. ARandomName123 (talk) 23:10, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
  • I'm absolutely fine with having lots of new (potential) editors participating in this event. This is Misplaced Pages Day, and it's always been used in every location it's "celebrated" as an open invitation to anyone who is interested in our project. It's not restricted to editors, or extended confirmed editors. These types of open sessions often have the ability to build up local community editorship, and we should be happy to see lots of new names on the list. I think we should look at this as an opportunity to be gracious hosts who are enthusiastic about expanding our editorial corps, and helping people to determine if this is a good fit for them. As for me, I'm going to spend this evening working up a "brief history of Misplaced Pages" presentation, given the event. Risker (talk) 00:12, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
    Someone's pulling our leg Moxy🍁 01:42, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Could be. On the other hand, I've heard that other longer-standing Misplaced Pages Day meetups tend to attract a much larger crowd than usual (2-5x as many people), a lot of them newbies or people who are mainly readers. There's no way we'll get this many people there; but it isn't outlandish to think there will be more than just the dozen or so people who usually show up. Even at regular meetups, there are often 20% newbies. Risker (talk) 02:38, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
