great and small circles

difference of small circl to great circle — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.6.181.171 (talk) 08:50, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Incomplete

Needs relation between the angular radius and Euclidean parameters, the curvature (in the sense of Riemannian geometry of the sphere), and the formula for areas (solid angle) of two parts of the sphere. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 14:11, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

All of this is still needed, 10 years later. I at least just expanded the lead section with a number of the most basic concepts/definitions, but this topic could really fill a whole book (and has). I'm busy with some other projects, but I'll try to come flesh it out some more (with proper sourcing, etc.) at some point. –jacobolus (t) 19:29, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Name of surface

Small circle of a sphere.

Does anyone know the name of the small surface? Soerfm (talk) 12:06, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

I suggest a spherical disc. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
