"Misplaced Pages's articles are no place for strong views. Or rather, we feel about strong views the way that a natural history museum feels about tigers. We admire them and want our visitors to see how fierce and clever they are, so we stuff them and mount them for close inspection. We put up all sorts of carefully worded signs to get people to appreciate them as much as we do. But however much we adore tigers, a live tiger loose in the museum is seen as an urgent problem." --WP:TIGER

Electrician image

I changed the image from the obscure 48v lineman to an abstract one from the early history of the trade. I do hope it remains acceptable. The trade is so diverse that a picture of any field may be too specific.--Canoe1967 (talk) 23:04, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for bring this to my attention. I will reply on Talk:Electrician. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:24, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Olive Branch

Guy, Thank you for finally acknowledging what I have been attempting to do all along, and trying to point out to people in the process of this side-tracked "war" that gained nothing. I can offer my apology for anything I may have said of an offensive nature, but un-backed opinions do not sit lightly with me as a means to demonstrate a person's position.

I did find your resume online (if you live in Cali) and it is very similar to the manner in which I have written my own. I have a degree, but I fully acknowledge it is merely a piece of paper that "proves" I have the ability to learn to a potential employers, and I agree hands on experience trumps much of what is "learned" within a classroom experience.

In tracing things out, I do see your improvements to the Surge protector page, and I can appreciate your knowledge in the subject matter. As I noted over there, I would move to have this page expanded (inclusion of Lightning arrester as a subtopic), and hence the Surge Protector page linked to my proposed Lightning Protection Systems page, as primarily that is what SPDs are used for.

There are huge advantages to working collaboratively instead of picking fights. Frankly, you have zero chance of your proposed changes ever making it into Misplaced Pages unless you decide to work with others. That is simply how things work around here. I have no basic objection to your proposal to change the way Misplaced Pages writes about lightning protection, but you really do need to follow all of Misplaced Pages's rules if you want to get that done.
I should point out that, just as anyone can change any Misplaced Pages page, anyone can change Misplaced Pages's rules. Just go to the talk page for that rule and make your case for changing it. But until you convince others to make the change, you need to obey the rules.
If you really want to work collaboratively, you should do the following:
You should go through all the pages you have edited (See the "my contributions" link at the top of the page) and delete the text (but not your signature) of every personal attack you have written against anybody. Replace the attacks with (redacted) or (deleted) and put "Self deleting per WP:NPA" in the edit summary. It doesn't matter whether you think they deserved it; personal attacks are not allowed even if the person deserved it. Personal attacks are not allowed even if the person attacked you first. If I see that you have done this I will self delete all criticism I have written regarding you and will make a fresh start with you.
Going forward, you need to make a decision to follow the rules. You need to conform to Misplaced Pages's behavioral guidelines even if others don't. You need to conform to Misplaced Pages's behavioral guidelines even if you aren't getting your way. You need to decide once and for all that, no matter what anyone else does, you will never again break the rules. The particular rules you need to study are these: WP:NPA, WP:CIVIL, WP:AGF, WP:V and WP:RS.
Given your past behavior, you need to prove to me that you have changed your ways and are willing to be part of the Misplaced Pages team. Or you can keep fighting and lose every battle until you finally get blocked from editing. Your choice. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:33, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

All has been completed, the ball is in your court for the "final section of Lightning Rod Talk." PS, no need to stack on additional WikiPolicy points in your attempt to prove wikisuperiority, as the final 3 in your list were never of issue, and I have more than demonstrated my adherence to them without even knowing of their existence.

On the mothballed section, do I redact that as it is supposed to be "locked". I'm fine with it's removal, other than it does prove often I was adhering to said final 3 WP points. :\ Borealdreams (talk) 22:04, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Please accept my apology if I implied that you have violated all the guidelines I suggested you study. That was not my intention. In particular, WP:V and WP:RS are pages that I think you should study because they will help you to create a new Misplaced Pages page that can survive a deletion review. I really do want you to succeed, and those pages should be a big help.
You are allowed to redact your comments in archived sections. If anyone questions that, please refer them to me. The main purpose for closing discussions is to stop editors from making new points and thus carrying on the same discussion in multiple locations.
You may wish to consider whether writing "...in your attempt to prove wikisuperiority..." is following the spirit of WP:CIVIL. I'm just saying. --Guy Macon (talk) 22:52, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
