Dipterocarpaceae are a family of mainly tropical trees with two-winged fruits. Their distribution is palaeotropical, but there are chiefly found in Indomalaysia. They provides valuable woods, aromatic wood oils, balsam, and resins.
Timber woods
The following table associates tree species, wood name and wood color. The term Phillipine red mahogany refers in the United States to the wood of trees belonging to the three genera: Shorea, Parashorea, and Pentacme.
