Semi-protection: Constant IP reversions and edit. As a side note, it would seem that the moment protection (that I requested about three weeks ago) went down the edit warring returned almost immediately. Perhaps a longer period than two weeks is necessary. I have attempted to bring some of the IP editors to the table about the names but it seems to be in vain. Article is very well developed and sourced. We also have several precedents for this kind of articles: Google search. The confusion strives on the article's title. It should be Political status of Crimea and Sevastopol since both territories are disputed but the dispute is based on the same argument (so there's no point in having one article for each). There are a few related articles but they intrinsically and fundamentally cover different subjects. For example:

• International recognition of the Republic of Crimea covers the recognition of the short-lived "Republic of Crimea (country)" as an independent sovereign state.
• Accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation covers the process through which the "Republic of Crimea (federal subject)" came to be.
• 2014 Crimean crisis covers a very broad subject about the whole situation in the Crimean peninsula, not only the political status of these two new entities.

Precedents for this includes:

• Political status of Taiwan
• Political status of Transnistria
• Political status of the Palestinian territories
• Political status of Western Sahara
• Political status of Nagorno-Karabakh

..and so on as demonstrated by the Google search linked above.

We contacted the admin, as you can see at, User talk:Dpmuk#Political status of Crimea, but he preferred to bring the discussion to WP:ANI rather than here.

I hereby formally request the article's unprotection through the proper channel (this page) per the arguments presented before.

What's being discussed at ANI is the conduct of an admin in respect to WP:PREFER, a policy, as "Administrators should not protect or unprotect a page to further their own positions in content disputes.". What's being requested on this page is the article's unprotection based on arguments not related to the admin's behavior. Furthermore, this page is the channel for unprotection requests, not ANI. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 09:41, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

It's not a vote it's a decision (the same as it would be on WP:UAA or WP:AIV or regarding a WP:CSD. However in the interest of having another pair of eyes I've struck the decline template so the bot won't archive it until another admin declines as well.
