This is a list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in India, based on the central list maintained by the National Commission for Backward Classes. It does not reflect the state lists, which can differ significantly. The OBCs are historically disadvantaged groups that are given certain preferences in the spheres of education and employment under a system of positive discrimination. The OBC lists change periodically, with communities being classified and declassified.
A community identified as a nationally-recognized OBC in this list, may be so recognized only in some Indian states and even only in some areas of some states, and that the same community in other Indian states or areas may not be deemed an OBC. Occasionally, it is not an entire community that is thus classified but rather some parts within it.
List
The current list of centrally recognized OBC's is maintained by the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
