Hi. Can you take a look at Template:Did you know nominations/Jessica Trengove‎? My understanding is that this type of information belongs in an article and is not padding at all. --LauraHale (talk) 03:42, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

I won't go wading in at the DYK nom but I think in this case the family information is valid; noting that her siblings also compete in sports to a high level is encylopaedic. There is a balance to be struck on results; important results, such as win or medal position in any significant race along with Olympic/World Championship qualification and finals, should of course be summarised in prose (possibly in addition to a list/table of lesser results). Personal bests and other minor results can end up looking a bit messy in a short article (not so bad if they're dotted amongst large chunks of text e.g Usain Bolt); on this particular article it might have been better to have them in a list, though I think convention is to have that list in the infobox not in the body of the text (again see Bolt's article) - Basement12 (T.C) 09:35, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. My problem is I'm not so good with linking text. : / I tend to be get the prose together, the sources identified and the basic information in. Did not advance on most Olympic events

Basement12, I have a favor. I would like to put template for "did not advance" in most events. I choose "no" template since it depicts elimination of a contestant or an athlete. Is it okay with you? Without color makes me confused. Thank you. Raymarcbadz (talk) 14:20, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Per WikiProject Olympics guidelines the boxes should not be coloured. Adding the template to grey them out makes it far too easy to confuse with rounds that don't exist for that event; we need it to be clear that the athletes were knocked-out of the competition. Simply putting a centre aligned "Did not advance" is the way to go - Basement12 (T.C) 14:30, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Simple and plain is exactly the point and why the MOS was drawn up as it is after much discussion on the use of colours; i'm not entirely convinced that using the template for "Bye" is necessary (on a related note there is no need for that to be capitalised as "BYE"). Why is there any need to draw more attention to it? Anyone looking at the table is presumably capable of reading the text - Basement12 (T.C) 17:30, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Your bold claims about what sources show

Per this edit summary, "remove suggestion that NI is included in team name. per all International Olympic committee sources this is not the case", I'll ask you again on your own talk page, given your muteness elsewhere, where is the source from the IOC that explicitly states that the name of the team is Great Britain? If you cannot produce the source, then it's pretty clear you are engaging in improper original research, because you're argument boils down to 'look at the sign they carried in the opening ceremony' or 'look at the title on the IOC webpage', which is of course utter intellectual garbage if it contradicts things like the BOA's own explicit statement that Team GB is the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team. I've no issue with you using IOC usage as the basis of a Manual of Style for various tables/articles etc, but in the places that specifically talk about the team name, or where the use of the BOA's own terminolology is relevant, but where you've been busily rewriting facts and removing sources you apparently just don't like, this is unnacceptable. Enough. You're wrong. You've been given many sources and past discussions on the topic. I agree the team should by every right be named Great Britain and Northern Ireland but factually speaking it isn't, and that is an issue that will always, rightly, cause debate. Your edits as well intentioned as they may be are becoming disruptive and I suspect I could list any number of sources and yet you'd take no heed - Basement12 (T.C) 02:42, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
