Happy 10th anniversary of Misplaced Pages!

HeyBzuk (contribs) has bought you a whisky! Sharing a whisky is a great way to bond with other editors after a day of hard work. Spread the WikiLove by buying someone else a whisky, whether it be someone with whom you have collaborated or had disagreements. Enjoy!

What goes around, comes around. Spread the good cheer and camaraderie by adding {{subst:User:HJ Mitchell/WikiScotch}} to their talk page with a friendly message. Bzuk (talk) 14:37, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Mega Drive to Sega Genesis?

  1. The Sega Genesis was the most successful brand of the Mega Drive, with sales accounting for over 55% of the consoles sold bearing the name "Sega Genesis."
  2. There are more native English speaking people in North America than everywhere else in the world combined, and Sega Genesis turns up more google search results than Sega Mega Drive.
  3. Sega Genesis was the brand that was first presented to English speaking consumers,
  4. Genesis name is used on GameFAQs, GameSpot, GameRankings and other CNET websites, as well as MobyGames, Ebay, and Amazon.com. These are sites a user new to the subject would go to, and are considered valid resources for Misplaced Pages articles within context.
  5. To date, no equal importance third-party websites shown using the Mega Drive name as a primary have been presented in this discussion.
  6. Sega continues to use Genesis branding for North America releases. See Sega Genesis Collection.
  7. Per Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (use English), most English references used in the article use the name "Sega Genesis" or simply "Genesis".
  8. People new to the subject are more common for English speakers to encounter it as "Sega Genesis" due to the primary hubs used for information on video games for said group.
  9. Genesis name is much more common to produce results in search engines over Mega Drive.
  10. Original name doesn't matter - only common name.

Ten reasons. Wow that's a lot.--SexyKick 01:54, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

??? Why are you telling me this? JDDJS (talk) 02:05, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Since you're motivated to change article names...keep it up. I'll support this one.--SexyKick 04:44, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
That was a very creepy copy & paste you left me. lol
I'm aware I can start it myself, but I don't feel the energy nor do I currently posses the writing clarity to start such a topic, I continue to go with little sleep for the past few weeks and it's effecting things I can do or feel up to. I completely appreciate you getting the ball rolling on this one, since you were so good with the Eggman article even though people prefer Robotnik over Eggman, you fact navigated quickly and effectively, and I can only list these facts to you. If you're unwilling to do so soon, then that's a shame, though I do appreciate your opt in for support, it will most likely be a few months until I would try to start this myself. I hope I can count on you then, or that you'll change your mind regarding not starting the change yourself. It's probably wise to wait anyway I guess.--SexyKick 05:21, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Policy discussion

{{helpme}} I want to bring up a policy discussion about the use of non-free images for TV characters over the use of free images of the actors. Where should I start it? JDDJS (talk) 18:51, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

I would suggest Misplaced Pages talk:Non-free content  Ronhjones  19:46, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

(edit conflict)

I would start off by requesting input on Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Television and perhaps a note on WP:MCQ and/or Misplaced Pages talk:Non-free content to direct others to the discussion.
That would be, to get some opinions of others, and to formulate the idea more clearly.
Once you have a reasonably clear idea of a proposed change to policy, then WP:VPP would be the place.  Chzz  ►  19:48, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Protective Oceanic Device prod

Hi! I have added a few references and removed the prod, I will do more research and make nice ref tags in the next 48h, very busy now. If you still think this is a hoax or should be deleted please get back to me with your concerns and I will try to address them. --Stefan 01:05, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

That fine with me. JDDJS (talk) 01:24, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

2019 and 2023 Asian Games merging

Hey, JDDJS, do you have any idea to merge both article? The consensus shown that have to merge, reply to me if you have time, thanks! --Aleenf1 06:38, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Romy Rosemont

Hi, I de-PRODded Romy Rosemont because I found a fair bit of coverage in Google News. As a courtesy, could you give me a week to separate the wheat from the chaff and work out if she's as notable as I think she might be? Cheers, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:05, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

No problem. JDDJS (talk) 03:06, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
