Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Sinitta (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, There was a legitimate dispute about the subject's date of birth which led to a lot of flipping back and forth between 1966 and 1968 before it was resolved in favour of 1968. Unfortunately this has encouraged the local "comedians" to keep changing the date of birth to ever more implausible dates. A period of semi-protection might persuade them to go away. Jon Gosselin (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Recent news releases revolving around him have caused a massive flood of anon vandalism. Like the main article, Jon & Kate Plus 8, was protected, this should also probably be protected for at least a few days. Thanks. 13 17:23, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection - A three-day semi-protection ended this morning, but the same editor (using multiple IPs) is once again removing population figures from the article. APK say that you love me 15:21, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I disagree with this; there's only one vandal. Give him/her warnings, then go to WP:AIV if they persist. There's no need for protection... —Ed (talkcontribs) 15:28, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Saturn Corporation (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and related articles

Semi-protection. For several months now, there has been a constant stream of good faith edits (most all from IPs) to these articles that aren't in line with wp:crystal. Since the announcement yesterday, this has resumed and is likely to continue until the company does actually wind down its operations (currently expected before October 2010). user:J aka justen (talk) 14:04, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Only for Saturn Corporation. The rest only have had one or two IP edits, not as constant of edits. Will happily extend protection if necessary. tedder (talk) 15:38, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Battle of Fort Pillow (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection Edit warring, A series of edits by IPs have focused on one paragraph and are either deleting the paragraph or adding the same sentence. They have not responded to an invitation to take it to the discussion page (where I have attempted to open a discussion). Tom (North Shoreman) (talk) 12:06, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Commonwealth of the Philippines (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary move-protection, 23prootie moved the page almost thrice without consensus and no attempt to discuss. He/she provided a single source. Historical documents showed that the name designated was really Commonwealth of the Philippines, not Philippine Commonwealth. (Likewise, the country itself is called today as Republic of the Philippines, but the article about Philippines is not called Philippine Republic as such.) Thanks. Semi-protection. Constant vandalism by IPs for nearly ten days. Laurent (talk) 10:51, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. One or two vandalisms per day does not constitute an "extremely high level of vandalism", which is required for protection (scroll up for that quote). N11 road (Ireland) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Move protection. After a series of contested moves of British and Irish roads, Sarah777 (talk · contribs) has announced an intention to move the road unless she receives a "valid objection". See User talk:BrownHairedGirl#N11_road.2C_clear_primary_location and Talk:N11 road (Ireland)#Requested_move). Move protection will ensure that a consensus can be formed before any move takes place. Move protected indefinitely. tedder (talk) 15:20, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    To Live A Lie Records (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

When speaking to protecting admin on 01:21, 11 August 2009 (UTC), was advised to post unprotection request here. Would like article unprotected. Even if it does not meet WP:BAND currently, it could qualify in the future and there was no abuse based around the article. Thank you. WillFastcore (talk) 21:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Not unprotected. Given the history of deletions, and your admitted conflict of interest here, I don't think that unprotection is a good idea until there is a proper draft article (e.g. in your userspace at user:WillFastcore/To Live A Lie Records) showing that the requirements of WP:BAND are satisfied. I certainly don't think that speculation that the article might qualify in the future is a good basis for unprotecting an article. Bencherlite 21:54, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
