:Well, FDRoosevelt did many questionable things, so what? If anybody wants to call him well-deserved names and have sources, I am all for this, but it is totally irrelevant here. The thing is that the handling of Koreans in the Soviet Union is considered as an instance of ethnic cleansing in scholarly sources. Sakhalin Koreans deported to Central Asia by the Soviet Union in the late 1930's?
Sakhalin Koreans were brought to the southern half of Sakhalin Island in the late 1930's by Japan; they weren't in Soviet jurisdiction at the time, so it's unlikely that the Soviet Union deported them. It is possible that there were a few Koreans living in north (Soviet-controlled) Sakhalin but these people probably weren't related to the south Sakhalin Korean laborers brought in by the Japanese, unless they escaped to north Sakhalin shortly after being brought to south Sakhalin, and were then quickly moved to Central Asia by the USSR.
