== "Personal attacks" ==

Calling someone who vandalizes an article a vandal is not a personal attack, and obviously, is not a good faith edit. Laying out a laundry list of supposed personal attacks is also not assuming good faith, especially since the claims are ridiculous. If you bothered to investigate TheWinstonator's contributions, you'd find where he claimed to be reverting vandalism, but actually removed content. Oh, the irony of that edit summary. Evidently, neither of you actually understand what I was doing. Is it really appropriate for you to be throwing around accusations willy nilly? You posted inflammatory garbage on my talkpage and didn't even bother to do any research beforehand. But who needs that, when posting warnings on someone's talk page increases your wiki-cred? --] (]) 03:39, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

helpme

My question - My log says I created User:Red Frog, although I did not. Can I remove it, and if I can't, will it have an effect on me in the future? Green caterpillar 19:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Please put helpme requests on yout talk page ... and; Having two accounts isn't against the rules on its own. Someone may have logged in as you and created the other user (suprisingly similar usernames patterns), no it can't be removed (unless you have the account password and have it disabled). It may affect you if it is used as a sockpuppet to circumvent wikipedia rules. -- Wirelain 19:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Short answer: no. Long answer: yes there is a 'right to dissapear' ... but that doesn't removed entries from your log, just completely hides your log from everyone, except admins. The only way i know is to completely stop using and lock the account, while getting a new one. You may want to ask in more detail at the village pump. -- Wirelain 20:14, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

AN/I question

I see the question has already been answered above, so I'm not sure why you decided to ask it again. The answer is the same. The account was created whilst logged in as this account so technically the account was created by "you". The effect is that everyone can see the account was created by you and it looks like you have two accounts, having two accounts is not against the rules, using those accounts to circumvent policy is. So say you both voted on a article for deletion it could like you were trying to get two votes. The connection cannot be removed from the log. Using the rename user facility won't remove the connection. The best thing to do is what has already been suggested, one of you should just log out and create a new account and never use the old account again. --pgk 07:02, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Pigments

I separated the article into two, the other being called pigment, biology. Please see the discussion of that in the Talk section. The two topics (pigments in art and manufacturing and biological pigments) really had nothing in common with each other except the basic definition of a pigment, and it was unwieldy to create an article around both topics. --Metzenberg 20:20, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

List of beat 'em ups undeletion request

I have nominated List of beat 'em ups to be undeleted, under the reasoning that it is not redundant to the category; it contains many games which are not covered by the category, and may never be able to be covered by it. In addition, the list can do more than the category. It can put date, developer, release date, system, et al., useful especially for articles that would be difficult to create an article for. I hope that you will vote on this and hopefully support its undeletion, on the basis that it does something that makes it not redundant to the category. - A Link to the Past (talk) 22:24, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof Awaiting Approval list

Hi. I just applied for approval for VandalProof, and I noticed your name on the Awaiting Approval list. According to the instructions there, we are supposed to replace spaces in our usernames with underscores. (I think they request this because of formatting issues with their edit count tool.) I noticed that your name still had a space in it, so I changed it to an underscore. I hope you don't mind. Good luck! --Majin Izlude 11:56, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

From the Editors

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below)

We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future.

This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page

Re: Barnstar

Thanks! I voted keep on Hardy's AfD, so I figured I had a responsibility to make it an article worth keeping. Since I've exhausted all the sources, I've nominated it for GA Status. My GA reviewing history tells me that something's still a bit off about the article, but experience has taught me that, if the article is in decent shape, the GA reviewer is usually more helpful than a peer review. And I'm not so sure about the fair use rationale for the image. But we shall see. Anyhow, thanks again for the barnstar (and the class rating!) Cheers, CP 17:41, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Gene Stipe

Thank you for your comments regarding the article I created on former Oklahoma State Senator Gene Stipe. I agree with you that the article should be expanded, preferrably to include information about him other than his legal and health problems. I have conducted multiple searches on both Yahoo! and Google, however, I was disappointed to find a lack of information about him other than his aforementioned legal and health problems. Any ideas on how to expand the article would be most appreciated. --TommyBoy (talk) 00:02, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Help with a Bio article

Hello, Green Caterpillar! A while back you placed a "B-class" rating on an article that I contributed, Ilchi Lee. Since then, it has gotten the attention of some people that would like it to concentrate on certain rumors surrounding Lee. I think that is a bit inappropriate since it is a biography of a living person and the topic has not been covered well in reliable sources. One person expanded the "controversy" section enormously, relying heavily on rickross.com, Steve Hassan's site, and selectsmart.com. I am under the impression that these sorts of websites are not considered reliable. In other cases, he/she went far beyond the content of the sources used. For example, he/she cites court documents about a case, but the details he/she put in the article are not really there. (In fact, the documents show that the case was dismissed.) Anyway, I would really appreciate your help in monitoring this article, especially if you have good knowledge of policies regarding living people's biographies. A neutral observer woudl be very helpful. If you are too busy, maybe you can recommend someone.Nicola Cola (talk) 07:16, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Your question

If I remember WP:RPA right, removing obvious attacks in any talk space is kosher. Or at least striking them. But whatever the policy says, removing blatant personal attacks (not constructive criticism) is A-okay in your talk page. Besides, the person obviously isn't familiar with wiki, and probably could care less about preserving the talk record. It's always in the history regardless. VanTucky 23:15, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Issue II - May 2008
From the editor:

Here's Issue II of the project newsletter. We're trying to decide if this is sinking or floating. If you would like to contribute to next month's newsletter please jump right in at the News Desk! Have a great May.

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

Russell Latapy

Hi, regarding your assessment of Russell Latapy, you said (quote):

Has a picture, a table, many subheadings, and good info, but may need more information and needs more links.

You may want to have another look at the article.

  1. It doesn't have a picture
  2. It doesn't have a table

I would agree with your rating though, but you might want to change the notes you put on. Regards ← κεηηε∂γ 08:13, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I looked over it again, and I saw I gave it B-class nearly two years ago. I looked at the page history, from about that time and I saw there was a red-link image, so the image was probably deleted after I gave it that rating. As for the "table", I think I meant to say infobox, which is one of the criteria of the assessment. But anyway, thanks for your concerns, and have fun editing. :) Green caterpillar (talk) 17:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, that explains it. No worries :) ← κεηηε∂γ 17:36, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Gene Stipe

Per your December, 2007 suggestion, I have finally added sections to the Gene Stipe article. Please feel free to review the article and make any other changes or suggestions that you feel will improve the article. --TommyBoy (talk) 08:44, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Ohio Newsletter

The WikiProject Ohio Newsletter

Issue III - June 2008
From the editor:

This is the third edition of the WikiProject Ohio newsletter. If you have any project announcements feel free to drop them by the NewsDesk. It's request that you watchlist our talk page; so you can chime in on current discussions. Have a great June!

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Getting the Project Moving
  • WikiProject Ohio as an entity doesn't have as much action as other state projects. For this reason it has been proposed that the inactive WikiProject Ohio Townships be added as our taskforce. There is a !poll going on at WT:OH and your opinion is essential in the matter!
  • Stepshep has also proposed sending an invite to everyone in Category:Wikipedians in Ohio with an invite to join the project. If you are already a member you would not receive the notice of course. Once again, please note your opinion on the project talkpage.
Selected Article: Central Avenue Historic District (Dayton, Ohio)

The Central Avenue Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located at 201 to 338 Central Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. It consists of late 19th and 20th Century Revival-style houses as well as late Victorian-style houses, which were all originally single-family residences.

On December 16, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Each month a new Ohio related stub is the selected article. If you have a new stub created feel free to nominate it at the NewsDesk.

Article Assessment

Reedy Bot and ShepBot are currently hard at work tagging all of the Ohio articles. We may need to have an assessment drive when the bots are finished. Think of it as a late spring cleaning. Please note your opinions on the project talkpage if you would be interested in helping!
Over 15,000 articles have been tagged with {{OH-Project}}
We have 5,000 articles that need to be assessed for class!

WikiProject Food and Drink Newsletter July 2008

WikiProject Food and Drink Newsletter July 2008

--Chef Tanner (talk) 15:59, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

brown edits.

You deleted the following with the tag NPOV

Brown is undoubtedly the most famous of a series of U.S. Supreme Court cases that dealt principally with the efforts of civil rights activists to promote the interests of the people they represented.

Which part of that do you see as POV. The first clause clearly is a simple statement of fact.

Brown IS the most famous civil rights case in the history of the US and if is the mose famous of the SERIES of cases which resulted in desegragation.

Ranking is not intrisically POV.

Or perhaps the problem you have is with the second clause which implies the MOTIVES of the people who brought the series of cases. Is there alternate wording you WOULD endorse or is it INTRINSICALLY pov? Rick Boatright (talk) 23:07, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

-- fair enough, but in the future consider using "unverified" instead of NPOV. I'll dig up a source. Rick Boatright (talk) 04:46, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Biography Assessments

Hello. I noted that you have assessed Aubrey Lewis. Although I do not disagree with the assessment, I was wondering if you have noted the reasons for your grading? It would be useful to know what areas specifically need work in the article to improve it (pictures, layout, referencing etc). I had thought the findings of the assessment were on the talk page of the article but perhaps they are kept somewhere else?Kwib (talk) 14:05, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

adding stub tags

Hi, If you add stub tags as for Clayton Richard, could you add them after the categories rather than before? It makes life easier for people doing stub-sorting. See WP:STUB which says "By convention this is placed at the end of the article, after the External links section, any navigation templates, and the category tags, so that the stub category will appear last." Thanks, PamD (talk) 08:19, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Java (programming language)

Please don't constantly revert each other's actions. Try to talk it out.

— Green caterpillar (talk) 17:37, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I reverted the edits of an anonymous user whose edits were bad quality (at least in the style sense) and unexplained (no edit summary). Being a C guy, I don't know if his edit is worthy in the technical sense. But given all the hints that it isn't, I prefer to stick with the version that already was in the article. -- Jorge Peixoto (talk) 20:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm not saying any particular user is right or wrong, and you're probably both trying to help out, but constant reversion is counterproductive. Discussion is much more productive. Also, we do have rules against this, like WP:3RR and WP:EW. So, yeah, just discuss first. It'll work out much better. :)

— Green caterpillar
I am sorry. I assumed it was just an anonymous user who wouldn't take the effort of reading the talk page. But I see we did exaggerate in the edit war. -- Jorge Peixoto (talk) 20:58, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Accidental posts on my talk page?

You left a 3RR warning on my talk page which was in error. Please be more careful with your posts. Thank you.LedRush (talk) 14:07, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Please see your talk page. Green caterpillar (talk) 19:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I would appreciate it if you were to assume good faith. When you accuse people of edit warring 3 days after their last edit on a page, and then make false accusations about disregarding that warning (I still haven't commented on that article) you are making it difficult to assume your good faith. If you really had an issue, it would have been nice for you to be more polite and to discuss it with me directly. I hope you can conduct yourself more maturely in the future, and if you have issues try to politely bring them up to me.LedRush (talk) 21:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Please look carefully at the timing of edits and incidents before templating users. Although the editor in question had been involved in an edit war, it had been 3 days before. You may wish to visit the editor's talkpage to see the path your WQA entry (which by the way had nothing to do with civility) has taken. BMW(drive) 19:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

How to guides and you/chocolate

It takes more than that to be a how-to guide. On that basis you could delete 'harvesting' for the same reason(!)

For it to be a how to involves more than that, it has to include all the practical details, and would normally need to be in the present tense. Merely talking about something in the abstract doesn't usually cut it.- (User) Wolfkeeper (Talk) 21:56, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Re Talk:Lady and the Tramp

17-Oct-2008: The advice I made regarding mental problems was not about a "content dispute" but rather about actions and attitudes. It certainly was not a "personal attack" but rather an indication that behavior was off-balance. If you feel that Misplaced Pages policies are helping to promote mental illness (by couching terms as a "personal attack"), then perhaps you might help to revise those policies. I feel it is very unhealthy for Misplaced Pages, in any way, to disguise or hide problems of mental instability among the users. In fact, the exact opposite should be encouraged: help users to understand when their behavior is off-balance, so that they might seek the necessary help before it is too late. Couldn't Misplaced Pages be sued because policies concealed the facts about mentally unbalanced users as they slid into total psychosis? Please, this is not a subject that I take lightly. Every day, I expect another headline: "Misplaced Pages enthusiast shoots co-workers". Thank you for earnestly considering these grim issues. -Wikid77 (talk) 18:13, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

  • 17-Oct-2008: Ok, I read your reply & understand that when I post a talk message, I am tasking Misplaced Pages to deliver that note as part of the effort. After re-reading WP:NPA about avoiding user-related issues in article talk, I have removed the health-related reply & replaced it with a very short reply focused more on the article, with no user recommendations, as follows:
17-Oct-2008: To User:C...: I am sorry that you didn't want to open a dialog about alternate ways to change this film article, but I will leave it alone for now and work on other articles. -22:09, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to explain the policy issues, which you accomplished with an amazingly short reply. -Wikid77 (talk) 22:23, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Feudalism

Because your reasoning that there was somehow a "how-to" guide in there is ridiculous. Adam Bishop (talk) 11:30, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Explain what? That there is no how-to guide in the feudalism article? What else can I say? Adam Bishop (talk) 01:01, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

"Personal attacks"

Calling someone who vandalizes an article a vandal is not a personal attack, and obviously, vandalism is not a good faith edit. Laying out a laundry list of supposed personal attacks is also not assuming good faith, especially since the claims are ridiculous. If you bothered to investigate TheWinstonator's contributions, you'd find this edit where he claimed to be reverting vandalism, but actually removed content. --Pwnage8 (talk) 03:39, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
