The University of California at Berkeley (UCB) is the University of California (UC)'s main campus, situated in Berkeley, north of Oakland in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Famous for various protests and political marches staged for decades at Sproul Plaza.
Several chemical elements were discovered by scientists working at UC Berkeley; two of them, berkelium and californium, are named in honor of the university.
The BSD dialect(s) of the UNIX operating system originate from the computer science lab at UCB.
The Tcl programming language and the Tk GUI toolkit were developed here by John Ousterhout.
