The backlog issue at SPI seems to be getting worse by the day, and I'd like to help. Comments below lead me to believe that non-admins are seen as less valuable here (understandably) but if my skill set and penchant for mundane repetitive tasks (I'm an accountant) would be of use then I will stand for consideration. I've been around the project for a few years but only really active in the last 14 months or so. I'm not prolific in terms of content but I do a fair bit of maintenance and hanging around at discussion boards. I'm drawn to SPI often through AfD or vandalism patrolling, and I've submitted or participated in a handful of SPIs (such as , ) with varying results. I think I know my way around and could be an effective clerk with the training. ] (]) 14:59, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
:Unfortunately, I think this request is a bit too soon, with only 2,800 edits. However, please don't be discouraged from either leaving your opinions on SPIs and finding evidence to support claims of socking, or reapplying at a later date when you have more experience. --''']]]''' 06:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
::Thanks for your input! I thought others might think my contribs a bit thin for this. Maybe ping me if things get desperate here, or I'll be hanging around anyway. Cheers! ] (]) 14:47, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I am asking if can train to become a SPI clerk. I've been doing new pages patrolling for a long time, so I often encounter sock puppets. I opened several SPI cases, and in fact those suspected were proven to be socks every time. Those were, of course, easy cases, and CU was usually not needed. But that is how I came to be interested in the Sockpuppet Investigations. I read all the relevant policies and essays (], ], ], ], ]), so I basically understand what the job of the clerk is. I see that there are many cases waiting, so I think my help may be welcome here. ] (]) 23:08, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

I recently noticed the Large backlog at ] is seeming to be getting bigger by the minute. While there seems to be quite a few clerks working at the moment, i though i'd step up to clerking. I've started a few cases myself, Admittedly the first one having misguidedly requested a Checkuser, But most of them ending up being a case of ]. Another reason that i think i should step up is because of my knowledge of Security practices and what effects something as little as a misguided check could have. The legal implications of a Misguided check require a decent amount of people to make sure this does not happen, and with the sheer amount of SPI's that may be happening at one time, a cocktail of stress and sheer amounts of workload can make mistakes more common if the workload is not spread out among enough people (Though i may be getting ahead of myself partly, mostly because i have not gotten the time to read the full Privacy policy.) Nonetheless, i would like to apply to become a Trainee. ]] 09:43, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

::Hmm, I must have misread your number of deleted edits as the number of edits; sorry about that. But per Hell in a Bucket, most of our clerks are admins because many clerking tasks are difficult to do without admin tools. -- ] ] ] ] ♠ 02:03, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

New requests
Use this section if you are interested in training for clerkship, or would like to discuss possible training, and any other questions about possibly training for clerkship. Please add your request to the bottom of this section, with your name in the title. If you are applying for traineeship, please also include the indented user link template :{{Usercheck-full|USERNAME}} Clerks/CUs - This is a list of people who would like to become trainees. Please go in chronological order when choosing your next trainee. If you do not feel the user is ready for clerkship yet, please continue the thread where they asked and inform them on their talkpage. Please remove each as they are reviewed or taken on by a specific user. |
Recruiting
Should we be ramping up our recruiting efforts? Perhaps post an ad on WP:AN or something. The backlog is not getting any shorter these days. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 02:09, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
- Me and Mike are slowly easing our clerking jobs (although he's definitely doing more than I am); once we pick up a normal pace I suppose it'll help. ☺ · Salvidrim! · ✉ 02:31, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
- Usually the slowdown is having admins to do the blocking once the CUs have done whatever they do. Unfortunately my activity has completely tanked everywhere on Wikimedia this year, and I haven't done much SPI over the last several months. --Rschen7754 02:52, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
- I just came back to the project so I may not be the best candidate but if you need people I'll happily help wherever I can.--Church 01:15, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- Generally speaking, from past experience it's kind of difficult for a non-admin to clerk. But feel free to help out by finding evidence (especially diffs since a lot of case openers forget them and clerks have to either tell the filers to go back and find them or just do it themselves). -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 18:43, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

One-click archive
I no longer seem to have the 1-click archive button; what happened to it? --Rschen7754 03:21, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- Also, has anyone noticed the tabs looking weird and being in a smaller font than the body? For some reason it only happens on an unclosed SPI. Nothing I do, such as clearing my cache or the server cache, fixes the issue. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 18:37, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Small change to SPI helper
Hi all, I've made a small change to the SPI helper script with Tim's okay which changed the "Confirmed sock" option to "CU confirmed sock" and uses a different tag which mentions that a CU has confirmed it. Shouldn't be a difference to how we do anything, just look a little different. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 12:32, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
SPI Team January 2015
Back in September 2014, we embarked on a new type of training, a group type training. It's had it's plus and minuses, and I hope we can scope and change it to be better for future teams. The functionaries team has been recently discussing our new trainees. As a result of that discussion, there are some changes to the clerk list. The final recommended changes passed 13-0. They are as follows:
- Mike V (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) is promoted to full clerk status
- Aoidh (talk · contribs) is removed from the clerk training program due to inactivity beyond the case page, and receiving no reply from him.

- Oh, and if anyone's wondering, although that's not a "change" per se, I did personally request to be left as a trainee for now as I don't feel I've had time to amass enough experience for full clerkship yet. Mike V is much better than I am at the moment. ;) ☺ · Salvidrim! · ✉ 16:37, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
