Beyond My KenWhen determining what course of action should be taken about a disruptive, tendentious or bothersome editor, the primary concern – more important than precedents, consistency, fairness or even AGF – is which option will best serve the building of an encyclopedia.
Chris Mooney" are characterized by personality traits that fall in the so-called Dark Tetrad: Machiavellianism (willingness to manipulate and deceive others), narcissism (egotism and self-obsession), psychopathy (the lack of remorse and empathy), and sadism (pleasure in the suffering of others)."

Beyond My KenWe all tend to take Misplaced Pages much too seriously. It's certainly important to provide a free first-class online encyclopedia for the public, and no one can dispute how central Misplaced Pages has become to people searching for accurate, unbiased information, but there's little excuse for the bitterness, in-fighting and bitchiness with which many people approach editing here, which makes the experience difficult and unpleasant at times. I am generally in favor of removing the worst of those transgressors permanently, which, of course, leaves me open to the charge of not assuming good faith. Actually, I have little trouble assuming good faith, I simply refuse to keep the assumption alive in the face of evidence of misbehavior.

Beyond My KenMisplaced Pages is a project to create and improve an online encyclopedia which is as accurate and as useful to its readers as possible. It is not an MMORPG, a debating society or an experiment to create the ideal online community. Activities which do not, in some direct or closely indirect way, contribute to that goal are a waste of the project's resources and should be minimized as much as possible.
Beyond My Ken- Learn the lesson that collectively, Misplaced Pages doesn't want to be saved, it's not even very concerned about being fixed. It is quite happy being what it is, flawed or not.
- Most importantly: Stay uninvolved, learn not to care.

File:Pierre-Jules Boulanger.png licence information
Hello Beyond My Ken, thanks for updating the licensing information for the photograph File:Pierre-Jules Boulanger.png. You added as the source http://foter.com/photo/pierre-jules-boulanger/. I have a concern with this source. Note the similarity between the current version of the file, uploaded by you on 28 February 2012, and the photograph at Foter. They are visually the same, with exactly the same dimensions. Because of this, I am convinced that they got the photograph from Misplaced Pages and assumed that the licensing information was correct.
I got the original image from http://www.designmuseum.org/design/flaminio-bertoni and my claim that it is in the public domain was based on assumptions about its publication that I now feel are not justified. The photograph may well be in the public domain, but nothing I have seen so far proves this claim. --Joshua Issac (talk) 09:36, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, I didn't upload a new version, I just cropped and cleaned up the version that you uploaded. I got the address I added from this TinEye search, since it indicated the image was PD. You may well be right that they got it from us, that actually makes a great deal of sense.
So, what I've done is to revert my changes to the file's information (except I left off "db-author" since it's not applicable once someone else has uploaded a new version). This means that the file should be deleted in a few days. Sorry for having gotten in the way. Best, BMK (talk) 10:34, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Redlink
Hi, Beyond My Ken, I noticed your edit. In fact I did not create a red link. There was already a (red)link to the Rev. Henry Eglinton Montgomery Memorial in New York. . Lotje (talk) 04:26, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- I don't believe that's the case. Here is the diff to your edit. On the left, before your edit, the words prsent are "Recor Rev Henry Eglinton Montgomery." On the right, in your edit, are the words "by ],". By surrounding "Rev. Henry Eginton Montgomery" with doubled square brackets, you created in that article a Wikilink to a non-existent article, which shows up red, instead of blue. BMK (talk) 08:22, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

- Your edit was, and remains unsourced. (1) Sources go into the article, not in the edit summary. (2) Misplaced Pages articles cannot be used as sources. The information you added may well be valid, but it must be sourced to remain in the article. Thanks. BMK (talk) 19:01, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the advice, I detected a lot of errors on the first chunk--Leglish (talk) 04:52, 16 May 2014 (UTC).
- No problem. I think if we work on it together chunk by chunk, I'll be clearer about what you wanted to do, and (hopefully) the result will be a better article. BMK (talk) 04:54, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- That's great to hear, we definitely need a spot check on a lot of museums... ChrisGualtieri (talk) 05:05, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
The Rules of the Game
This is a completely polite message and merely meant as a courtesy. How I am writing my contributions is so far organized as follows: Plot, Cast, Production (Subsections: Background and pre-production, casting, filming), Initial editing and previews, Release and reception, Re-discovery, Themes, Style, Legacy.
I think I may find Initial editing and previews to be too short and may make it a subsection with Release and Reception. This is not a challenge or hostile in any way. I am telling you this ahead of time out of courtesy and to see if you had any objections. If I could have sent you a private message I would have.--Deoliveirafan (talk) 05:36, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- I don't see anything in your plan of action that seems objectionable at first glance, but, as always, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I'll see what my response to it is after you make your edits. I suggest that you use the {{inuse}} or {{underconstruction}} tags at the top of the article, to let myself and other editors know that you are still working (as long as you don't string it out too long). If so, I will hold off until you are finished, and then make changes or adjustments as I see fit.
I appreciate your letting me know in advance so there is no chance of an unwarranted mistake being made between us. Good luck with your edits. BMK (talk) 05:56, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
