Craig Thomson affair

Yes, those obvious LNP supporters are being very foolish in wanting to use Bolt as a source. I have strong personal doubts about Thomson being as pure as the driven snow myself, but the approach of the Bolt pushers is never going to help their case. And it sure ain't encyclopaedic! Although you may be able to appreciate the situation whereby a deliberately false and defamatory insinuation is found, removed, and then re-inserted with false justification, some people may be reluctant to sugar-coat a negative fact. Since you raise the matter, may I suggest that you learn how to play "The Misplaced Pages Game"? The body of policies and procedures that have developed to allow editors from all communities and outlooks to create a useful encyclopaedia is one of the wonders of internet coöperation. Can I suggest that those condemning this user have a good look at all the recent behaviour at the threads in question. While rules may have been broken by this user, he was definitely provoked. The subject is a very sensitive one in Australian politics (it could bring down a government) and some editing has been very partisan in the most literal sense (i.e. opposition party members behaving badly here on Misplaced Pages). HiLo48, these kinds of games are what puts me off about contributing to Misplaced Pages - you find an article which has a obvious problems and blatant bias; you ask for experienced editors to sort it and little happens; someone like you comes along and tries to do the right thing; and then the kooks start playing their games with restoring their poorly sourced trash and defamatory libel, making dishonest edit summaries, etc, all the time baiting reasonable people and trying one's patience by playing stupid - and then admins come along and the kook plays innocent. My purpose in editing here is not to play Misplaced Pages Games; it is to put the facts in that article and ensure that it is neutral. Yet here we are, playing the kook's games. I believe this sort of nonsense drives many people away from Misplaced Pages who are capable of making some valuable contributions to it - and this experience has certainly put me off registering. 121.216.230.139 (talk) 03:40, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Oh, I'd still very strongly recommend registering. As a general rule, much of the vandalism and bad editing is done by inexperienced editors, usually with only IP addresses. It labels you as an inexperienced novice, more likely to do the wrong thing. That may be prejudice, but it's real. HiLo48 (talk) 03:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Personal attacks bordering on WP:NLT violation

This edit is not acceptable behavior here. Calling someone's edits "lies" and "libel" is a good way to get in trouble, and I suggest you find a less colorful way to express yourself. Continuing to address others in this way may be perceived as trying to have a chilling effect, as well as being generally disruptive, and may end up in administrative action. Seriously, please don't do this and force my hand. I'm not arguing against your points, only your methods. Instead, I would rather see the editors try to notch down the drama a bit and hash out the issues, in a slightly more civil manner. I have no opinion on the article content at Craig Thomson and see there are several good people on the talk page who are knowledgeable, so I will leave that in yours and their hands. Thank you for this message. It's been quite a minefield of processes and procedure. There appears to be a bit of prejudice towards IP-only editors, but I begin to appreciate why that's so when some unregistered users come along at random and maliciously screw things up. Behaviour on talk pages

Please look at WP:TALK, our guidelines for behaviour on discussion pages. WP:INDENT, as referenced from there, is particularly relevant. Nobody is baiting you, but when you put your comments in the wrong place, it detracts from clarity and ease of understanding. Removing or refactoring the comments of other editors from a discussion page, except in accordance with the guidelines, is severely frowned upon. You've been chipped on this before, directed to the guidelines by other editors. Please work coöperatively on this. It goes better that way. Feel free to ask other editors for help. May I suggest WP:Adopt-a-User? Your participation is valued, but Misplaced Pages can be daunting and frustrating for a new editor who thinks that they are not being given a fair go.
