In the years since MI-7's top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. Johnny English Reborn is a British action comedy film parodying the James Bond secret agent genre. The film is the sequel to Johnny English (2003), and is written by and stars Rowan Atkinson reprising his role as the title character and directed by Oliver Parker.

Plot

English is tasked with stopping a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. In the years since MI-7's top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia, but when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese Premier's life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. Now that the world needs him once again, Johnny English returns to his role. Filming for the sequel in London in September 2010

Universal Pictures first announced that they were producing a sequel to Johnny English on 8 April 2010, seven years following the first film.

Filming began on 11 September 2010 in Central London at Cannon Street, with further production scheduled for the week beginning 13 September 2010 at Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire and later in Hawley Woods in Hampshire, Macau and Hong Kong. Filming took place on The Mall in Central London on 25 September 2010.

The Johnny English Theme from the original film is used throughout the score.

Premiere

The film held its world premiere at the Entertainment Quarter in Sydney, Australia on 4 September 2011.

Reception

The film has currently received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 42%, based on twelve reviews.

On the Australian television programme At the Movies, Margaret Pomeranz rated the movie 3 stars and David Stratton rated the movie 2 stars (the highest being 5 stars).

Promotion

A teaser for the film was released on 7 April 2011. On 7 July 2011 Universal released the film's official trailer.
