Dele Alli position

Bamidele Jermaine "Dele" Alli (born 11 April 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team.

Alli was born and raised in Milton Keynes to a Nigerian father and an English mother. Dele joined the academy system at Milton Keynes Dons aged 12 and broke into the first team five years later, during the 2012–13 season. Over the next two-and-a-half years he made 88 official appearances for the team, scoring 24 goals. He signed to Tottenham Hotspur 22 in February 2015 for an initial fee of £5 million, being loaned back to the Dons for the remainder of the season. In his first full campaign at White Hart Lane, Alli was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year. In January 2016 he was ranked 8th in the Gazzetta dello Sport list of the 50 best U20 footballers and in October of the same year he was ranked as the best U21 talent in world football by FourFourTwo.

Early Career amendments - update received from his management/parents

Alli started began his football career with  the local team Milton Keynes Dons and later joined the youth academy system at Milton Keynes Dons when he was 12 years old.

He made his debut for the first team as a sixteen-year-old on 2 November 2012, coming on as a 64th-minute substitute for Jay O'Shea in a 0–0 draw with Southern Football League club Cambridge City in the FA Cup first round at Milton Road.

His first touch in professional football was a back-heeled pass. His first goal came in the replay against Cambridge eleven days later, where he scored in a 6–1 win at Stadium MK on his first start.

He made his league debut in the 2–3 defeat to Coventry City at home on 29 December, where he played 71 minutes before being replaced by Zeli Ismail. His only other league appearance in the 2012–13 Football League One season, came as a second-half substitute for Patrick Bamford in the last game of the season, a 2–0 win over Stevenage at Broadhall Way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DarrenMN2S (talk • contribs) 17:23, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Alli was born and raised in UK town Milton Keynes to a Nigerian father Kehinde Alli and English mother Denise. and English mother Denise Fitch. Alli spent his early years with his father both in England, Milton Keynes, and in Nigeria where he attended Avi-Cenna International School in Lagos, Nigeria’s capital city.

Alli returned to England because of his passion for football; his father says this was the hardest decision he has ever had to make.

Alli also attended Stantonbury Campus and The Radcliffe School in Wolverton.

Alli supported Chelsea growing up and Liverpool as a teenager with England players Steven Gerrard, Jason Puncheon and Yaya Touré being his childhood idols. Liverpool’s winning season in the Champions League is one of the moments that inspired him to passionately pursue a professional career at the top level in England.

One of Dele Alli’s closest friends is Eric Dier, fellow Tottenham and England teammate; people describe their relationship as a bromance.

There are changes compared to the current article. I, however, cannot be bothered to filter out all the changes from the wall of text. If the "individual" really wants to help improve the article, then I'd advise them to make suggestions in the format "please change X to Y supported by reliable reference Z" as mentioned by Sphilbrick. @LoveVanPersie: It's either /ˈdɛli ˈæli/ or /ˈdɛliː-/, I'm not sure. I think it's the first one.

@Govvy: I have no problem with Aikclaes checking the IPA, but I'm curious what you mean. Are you saying that both words are stressed on the final syllable? That's not the pronunciation I'm hearing in either of the links provided by LoveVanPersie. I think that the pronunciation used by Alli himself is the most reliable one, no? @Govvy: Phonetically, the first pronunciation is , with a long utterance-final . In the second clip, it's short . Both words are stressed on their initial syllables.

/i/ is a symbol that covers both short and long pronunciations. Strictly speaking, it's not a phoneme, but a neutralization of the /ɪ–iː/ contrast - see Help:IPA/English. Mr KEBAB (talk) 13:06, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Diving

The Times ref I added states that Alli had received the most yellow cards for simulation since 15-16 alongside Zaha... it seems like a decent enough source to verify the statement. I added it there in the interests of NPOV, because this article, like most football biographies on Misplaced Pages, is currently far too one sided. Random journalists' opinions on why he is so great are considered RS but not ones that criticise him. Honours?

I note that among his honours that are listed are "Runner-up League 1". If that is classed as an honour, then shouldn't his PL runner-up 2016-17 also be on the list?46.7.195.132 (talk) 17:53, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Runner-up in League 1 is see as an honour as it is rewarded with a promotion as well as a trophy. A google image search for 'dele alli league one promotion' shows Dele with that particular trophy. This is in contrast to being a runner-up in the PL, which is not seen as an honour, is not rewarded with a trophy or promotion. To confirm, any finishing position in any English league that results in a promotion and/or trophy is an honour. Dele vs Dele Alli

The player nowadays goes only by the name Dele. I would humbly request the name of the article is changed to Dele, or Dele (footballer born 1996). It seems that the change in his identification is related to the personal issues and trauma he has experienced, as well as being adopted into another family at a young age.
