Hello, im the drummer in the band "negative energy" and was shocked to see that our page was deleted. Being that i'm young (not twelve, but still saw your comment about them), i don't want to be "That Guy" who sounds like he's attacking you for it, i'm just wondering what we did wrong and how we can fix it so we can revive the article. Hello! I see you cited my review of **Myrrha** in your article on the story. How did you find Galactic Journey? :) --] (]) 04:27, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
Hi there. Since you seem to know a lot of the basics of wikipedia, I'm wondering if you can clear something up for me. I know that notability and credibility are huge parts of wikipedia, so to make sure I am a completely transparent user, I disclosed that I am an employee of the Cancer Research Institute and gave my contact information there. Have I done this correctly? Is there any information or statements that I should add or remove? I want to make sure that I can make factual changes to pages in the realm of cancer immunology without seeming like I have personal interests involved and staying neutral. Thanks for the advice. --] (]) 14:43, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

== Roman Holiday/Tim Hunter Wiki bio ==
== Restored ] ==

I’ve lived with this ridiculous entry for years and I can continue to live with it, but it’s utter nonsense. The Trumbos never wanted or asked for the physical Oscar statue back; my dad, who fronted for Trumbo, and Trumbo were fast friends for life, and the idea that I would have anything to do with it is nuts. The Oscar sat in the bottom of Ian’s filing cabinet for decades. In ‘93 the Academy “restored” Trumbo’s story credit and had a ceremony giving the family a new Oscar, and I was at that ceremony with the Trumbo family; Mitzi Trumbo was my roommate. The graf in the McFadden book about tv producer Dan Curtis doesn’t even say what the Wiki bio says, though I don’t have the citation with me now. I’ve never given a damn about this stuff, but some outraged friends have indeed tried to delete or correct it. Anyway, the idea that the Trumbos asked Ian to give back the physical statue is completely false; and the idea that I, his son who had nothing to do with any of it, was ever involved or asked for anything is even more nuts. In fact, I was mostly responsible in helping Trumbo’s son, Chris, to get the Writers Guild to restore Trumbo’s name on the actual screenplay credit (the Oscar in ‘53 was in fact for best original story). Listen, I’ve had a long career myself and have managed to live with this nonsense and survive quite nicely; but if you’re the guy who keeps putting in that the Hunters, me specifically, refused to give their close friends The Trumbos back the actual ‘53 Oscar statue, I have to tell you it’s a completely spurious entry. I leave it to you, Dragonfly. Salut/Tim H ] (]) 04:07, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
I've now also restored the article ] that you deleted, also because I couldn't find any evidence that it was a copyright violation. Some parts like the faculty list appear to be copied from elsewhere but I'm not convinced the entire article was, even if it's not formatted like a standard entry. Feel free to nominate it for deletion or point me to any sources you might have access to that I don't. ] 22:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
:I've restored the article ] that you deleted, again, because, despite problems with tone and syntax, it clearly ''is'' written in the form of an article, contrary to your deletion summary. If you really don't want it around, I suggest you nominate it for articles for deletion. ] 02:21, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I read your essay on the philosophy of the Cultural References section before hitting "restore" on that section for the Floating Island page. Yes, it's people eating food, but this is not a common dish--I went to look it up on Misplaced Pages after I watched the Hepburn/Tracy movie and thought this old cinematic reference would be interesting to Misplaced Pages users. In any case, the article is pretty blatantly advertising copy and short of a bunch of buzzwords like "Differentiated by its outstanding innovative technology" makes almost no assertion of notability. Hi Dragonfly. I've been submitting possible redirects for the ] list via WP:AFC. I've found a few that appear to be typos in the original book:
:::Ah, you're right, Z-Man, I didn't spot that page (and it isn't indexed on Google). As for being advertisement, the forthright name of the user was in compliance of ] - the tone of the article may have been a problem, but I don't think it's a valid G11 (it could have been edited into shape without being "fundamentally rewritten"). It was also not a valid A7 because it made clear claims of importance, such as "road endorsement of ISCOM technology by well-reputed vaccine manufacturers; 8 license deals and 4 veterinary products marketed." But unless Isconova explicitly licenses the material from their webpage, it can't be used as the basis for an article, and I will accept the deletion on that basis. ] 02:27, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
::::If the tone of the entire article is promotional, it would need an entire rewrite to be salvageable. Once you remove the meaningless buzzwords and marketing-speak, you're left with a list of board members and some random facts. The article in its last form was not remotely close to an encyclopedia article. <font face="Broadway">]]</font> 07:29, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

== Deletion of Alpha Phi Gamma ==
I'd like to know why this page was deleted? There are over 50 other Greek organizations with pages on wikipedia. The page followed the same patterns as the other greek organizations (alpha kappa kappa, alpha phi alpha, alpha kappa delta phi, etc) describing the history of the organization, their locations and the types of community service they participate in. Alpha Phi Gamma is the same type of organization as any other Greek organization that currently exists. The links from these organizations all lead to external links related to their organization's websites. It seems out of pattern that the page for Alpha Phi Gamma cannot exist when there are others already posted. ] (])

Alpha Phi Gamma is located at 9 different universities at present and growing. Each of the Universities Alpha Phi Gamma is a part of has it listed as a Greek organization. You can refer to University of Missouri's greek page listed on Misplaced Pages for confirmation of theirs ("MU Greek Life"). By greek standards, an organization is considered national when there are a minimum of 7 locations. There are quite a few greek organizations that are smaller than Alpha Phi Gamma that have their own pages. All are listed as Greek organizations on at least two or three other pages within wikipedia itself ("List of social fraternities and sororities"). Alpha Phi Gamma is also part of the National Asian Pacific Islander American Panhellenic Association(NAPA). ] (])

My reasons are described in the restore summaries, and I invite you to nominate any of them for AfD if you like. <s>I caution you against deleting user talk pages containing recent warnings,</s> as well as to refrain from making decisions of notability unilaterally. Remember that categories can also provide context, even in articles with no introduction. ==Marysville==
I did look carefully at what you changed and I rather resent your claim that I did not. Your edit still remains inappropriate with claims like this "Marysville '''depended''' heavily on tourism" (my bolding) and removal of "During the snow season, the population of the town may double or even triple, due to the influx of other hospitality and tourism caterers, such as ski hire, toboggan hire, chain hire, and many other profitable ventures associated with snowplay and skiing." Tourism will take a hit but will continue; the town is still at the foot of the ] ski resort and when the eucalypts regenerate (which they do remarkably quicky, being well adapted to a fire prone area) the area will regain its natural beauty.

For ] you said the etymology was indeed "Gall Bladder" and provided a source. Someone has since said it is actually "Black Bile" using that same source. Where did you get the idea that it was "Gall Bladder"? ] (]) 23:56, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
This desire to write off the town and its industry less than a week after the fire is unseemly and quite frankly ]. Where is your evidence that Marysville will no longer rely on tourism? Hi, I found this page in a google search. Regarding the term 'papayana', as a Sri Lankan Buddhist I've heard monks use it when describing history - where Mahayana was stamped out of Sri Lanka. I'm not sure if there are any written records, but if you ask some Sri Lankans you might find some info.

You left a note asking that I be more formal, having taking issue with the details of an article I wrote. I have issue with details that corroborate what I have tried to convey about people; are deleted by editors whom appear to have no use for those details. I did not say that in reading the cite it came across that the commodore was in his later years prone to injecting into his converse language not suitable for delicate ears, and that while he kept a talking bird the curse words it repeated has been described thusly. He cursed, the bird cursed and if you have a better way of stating this, please, have at it. Deleting the entry does no service to this decorated seaman and hero of WWI & WWII. The edit to this trashed hours spent trying to find a cite for this bird, in real life, the 1909 cartoon for the talking bird wasn't good for publication, but the commonalities between the cartoon, Randall's bird and Popeye's (salty sea dog) bird had me looking for that connection (WWI hero had talking bird = Popeye's talking bird) but I could not find any published connection. It's not just the talking bird, but the connection to a popular cartoon fiction of the bird making fresh comments to the Bluto character. I intended that the link for Bahia Bill not go to the popular sea shanty or to the genus Parrot, but to a TALKING BIRD. Please restore any edit to the original. == Compsci, DWITE - Not notable? ==
Hi
I'm not sure why you removed the DWITE page especially because that contact has been going on well before the owners at compsci.ca took over - it was and still is recognized among many high schools, how is it that once the owners of compsci.ca took over, it became "not notable"?

This is a reminder that the voting period for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) ends on May 9, 2024. Read the information on the ] to learn more about voting and voter eligibility.
As well, if you search the web for help on Turing, you mind find your self constantly being referred to compsci.ca - why? Because its probably the largest (only?) site that provides support for Turing (programming language), that its self should make it notable.

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Community members were invited to submit their applications for the U4C. For more information and the responsibilities of the U4C, please ].
Under what basis do you deem these pages "not notable" ?

Please share this message with members of your community so they can participate as well.

== Question about Marquis ==
The article is fine, for a stub. I fixed up some links and made the refs better. I'm not sure if 'addend' should wikilink to addition, or would a wiktionary be more appropriate?

Hello. Awhile ago I stumbled up the ] page by happenstance and I've been trying to help maintain it every once in a while. I have noticed something that may be an accidental omission, but I wanted to check and make sure it wasn't intentional. I was checking the blue links in the Summerbell section when I noticed '''John Preston Sutherland''' (in between George Sutherland and Roderick Dhu Sutherland in the book) is missing on the page's list. It isn't a red link, its just not present in the list at all. Should the name be added? ] (]) 23:01, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
Personal preference, I don't like "" too much, so I wouldn't bother putting "addend" and the other one in quotes. I think wikilink highlight is sufficient; I only use quotes for quoting. But I know others do.

Yesterday, I noticed the very long list of old comments attached to my user name. Mostly, things to people who don't seem to be on Misplaced Pages anymore or on comment pages that are no longer relevent to the articles. With no forethought of malice I started removing some of these old comments. I didn't know this is not allowed, why should I not be able to remove a comment from 2004 concerning a photograph on a page that doesn't even have a photograph anymore? Another thing that I removed was an outrageous accusation that I knew nothing about until yesterday which accused me of switching a picture of Cardinal Law with another photo. Most likely what happened is that I loaded a picture of Law and someone else loaded a picture using the same jpg name that I did so the photo changed. Anyway, Spock's father puts all those edits back claiming I couldn't do that. Then he starts following my other edits and reverting some of them. He changed the references on a page that had exactly four references. He changed with the 1. abc and 2 ab, which I find confusing and I did not find necessary on a page with four ref. When I changed it he started an edit war. He added back two labels for orphaned articles that I had removed because there were links to the pages. He then voted on another page that I voted to keep so he voted to delete, on things I never had seen him interested in before. I know that he is deliberately doing this to get me into an edit war and such because I have had experience with him and Blueboar before over some articles and my userpage. I'm tired of this type of behavior. Anyway, I don't plan on biting, but I don't plan on letting him push me around either, trying to speak reason to him and let him know that his behavior is that of a troll, he can feign ignorance if he likes, but he knows exectly what he's been doing. Anyway, take it easy. ] (]) 21:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Hello, DragonflySixtyseven,

I've noticed that you have been closing some AFD discussions. A couple of points. Please let discussions run for a full 7 days before closing them instead of closing them a day early. There is really no reason to close a discussion before 7 days have passed unless it is a SNOW situation which would mean an overwhelming number of Keep or Delete arguments and very little opposition. Secondly, according to ], if an AFD discussion has only 1 Delete argument, we typically close these discussions as "Soft Delete" due to low participation. Soft Deletions are possible if the article has not been to AFD or been PROD'd before and there are no arguments to Keep the article. This allows the article to be restored via ] should an editor wish to work on the article and improve. If you are using XFDcloser, which I recommend, you'll see the option to tag a Delete closure as a Soft Delete.

These appear to be out-of-process deletions. What ] does each of them fall into, if any?
You found out by looking at the deletion log. The deletion log does not provide access to the deleted content (unless you are an admin); it only tells you what was deleted, who deleted it, when it was deleted, and why -- in your case, it was because you copied (most of) the article out of Revue de Médecine Véterinaire. :Your ] did not answer my question, which was "What criterion for speedy deletion does each of them fall into, if any?" The rationales you provided are not bases for speedy deletion but rather for deletion-discussion nominations (or in some instances PROD-style seven-day tagging under ]–]).
You are welcome to write a fresh article about the Croatian Sighthound, and you can use RdMV as a source of information... but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. DS (talk) 02:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
:The one exception is that you've now asserted that ] had ]. However, that standard "is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources", so noting that the sources are ] and press releases doesn't mean that the assertions are not credible.
:More broadly, my concern is that you are habitually deleting pages that aren't eligible for speedy deletion. These files should be nominated for deletion, not boldly deleted. Since yesterday, there's also ] ("unused and extremely low quality (it's 6kb, made in MS-Paint)"), again despite ]'s limitation to non-free images.
:I'm looking for you to stop doing that. The easiest way would be for you to agree to stop, but if you are of the view that you don't need to follow deletion policy, there are more tedious ways to seek to resolve that. ]&nbsp;] 13:47, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Roman Holiday/Tim Hunter Wiki bio

Salut/Tim H 179.50.232.64 (talk) 04:07, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Floating islands as cultural touchstones

Then a few other users listed a handful of other references, which I found interesting and cool. Redirects for

Hi Dragonfly. I've been submitting possible redirects for the User:DragonflySixtyseven/Marquis necrology list via WP:AFC. I've found a few that appear to be typos in the original book:

74.94.190.241 (talk) 16:02, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, but if you find any more that are such obvious errors, just correct them in the source.
As for Greatorex: you're probably right that Marquis conflated the two, but given that it was a list of people who died between 1895 and 1901, they most likely meant Eliza Pratt, not Eleanor Elizabeth. DS (talk) 16:19, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Spelling of "Licensed"

In , I don't understand what you mean by "Not mentioned in MOS:S". It's very clearly mentioned. The noun spelling is "licence" in all varieties of English except AmE, in which it is "license". The verb spelling is "license" is used in every variety. "Licence" (and hence "licenced" etc) is always an incorrect verb spelling, except in archaic texts (and that's why it appears in Wiktionary). It's really not contemporary BrE usage. Bazonka (talk) 20:04, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Miss Caroline

Glad to see that you created a page on Miss Caroline. It may be worth noting that the panels which ran in newspapers were mostly -- but not solely -- reprints of panels from the book, and also that in 2020, About Comics reissued the book, expanded to include the additional panels. Both facts are referenced in this press release -- which as a press release doesn't add notability, but does give information. I won't be adding this information myself, because I'm the publisher of About Comics, so COI-city!, but noting collections is pretty common in strip articles. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 00:44, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, i hope you're doing great. I saw your message to Jamiebuba seeking clarification to why he rejected the article I created, https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:Ola_Oresanya

I am doing everything to improve the article, have followed all the instructions and advice of other editors who have even helped to correct the article.

respectfully, I have seen many articles with less references, citations and less quality in the content approved here. I feel the articled meets notability deserves an approval, or better still given more chances for corrections.

Please i need your honest opinion and review of the modified article i created after making some adjustments and adding more references. Here is a link to the new article https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:Oladimeji_Oresanya

Deletion of redirect File:Raat.jpg

Hi DragonflySixtyseven,

I noticed your deletion of this file redirect. Although the logs are slightly confusing, it appears to have been an {{R from move}} from File:Raat (movie poster).jpg, which was at that title from 2009 until recently.

WP:FILEREDIRECT states that n most cases the file redirect should remain, except if the original name falls under one of the revision deletion criteria...or shadows a file on Commons - neither of which appear to apply in this case. Therefore, unless there is something I’m missing (in which case I apologise), please could I ask that the redirect is undeleted?

All the best, A smart kittenmeow 13:23, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

What you're missing is that someone took it to RfD, and I decided to shortcut the process by just deleting it. That was procedural; however, it's clearly very important to you that this redirect continue to exist, so I've restored it. DS (talk) 00:44, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Given that this has been ongoing for weeks and no one has given any evidence that these particular protests are ongoing, I ask that the page be restored to 2023 Spanish protests against Catalan amnesty, that the page be put on full protection, that both of these users be banned for constantly making edits without giving any sources, and for using sock accounts, since the edits and the lack of sources strongly implies its the same person, and that the protests be declared definetifly over. Saltly sea dog

Plain spoken has always meant to allow for the language used below decks.

In Bahia he picked up a talking parrot he named Barnacle Bill, which became a salty sea dog itself, the captain always had a ready smile and was very plain-spoken, the Transatlantic Commodore was the epitome of an old sea salt.

Question about Marquis

Hello. Awhile ago I stumbled up the User:DragonflySixtyseven/Marquis page by happenstance and I've been trying to help maintain it every once in a while. I have noticed something that may be an accidental omission, but I wanted to check and make sure it wasn't intentional. I was checking the blue links in the Summerbell section when I noticed John Preston Sutherland (in between George Sutherland and Roderick Dhu Sutherland in the book) is missing on the page's list. It isn't a red link, its just not present in the list at all. Should the name be added? RoundSquare (talk) 23:01, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

No, I simply hadn't gotten around to cleaning that section yet, because this is all just a hobby and there are lots of other things to do on Misplaced Pages and its sibling projects. If I'd been doing the sections in order instead of just whichever ones I feel like, that might have been more obvious.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are other entries in that section that are missing or display OCR errors (e.g., "Williain" instead of "William"). Thank you for asking. DS (talk) 00:46, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

AFDs

Hello, DragonflySixtyseven,

I've noticed that you have been closing some AFD discussions. A couple of points. Please let discussions run for a full 7 days before closing them instead of closing them a day early. There is really no reason to close a discussion before 7 days have passed unless it is a SNOW situation which would mean an overwhelming number of Keep or Delete arguments and very little opposition. Secondly, according to WP:NOQUORUM, if an AFD discussion has only 1 Delete argument, we typically close these discussions as "Soft Delete" due to low participation. Soft Deletions are possible if the article has not been to AFD or been PROD'd before and there are no arguments to Keep the article. This allows the article to be restored via WP:REFUND should an editor wish to work on the article and improve. If you are using XFDcloser, which I recommend, you'll see the option to tag a Delete closure as a Soft Delete.

Thanks for helping out, we can always use more conscientious discussion closers! Liz 20:24, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Bold deletions

These appear to be out-of-process deletions. What criterion for speedy deletion does each of them fall into, if any?

  • File:FHM1.jpg ("bad license", but the license info {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0}} isn't anything violating WP:F3)
  • File:LakeWade.JPG ("image used only by a deleted page", but tagged as public domain, so not eligible for WP:F5)
  • File:Muralb.jpg ("photo of a mural in Illinois, where freedom of panorama does not apply to murals. Image is not really needed in the article, therefore no proper Fair Use Rationale could be constructed.")
  • Kelly Xu ("sources 1&2 are by a Forbes Contributor: not useful. 3&6 are press releases (PR Newswire): not useful. 4 is a podcast transcript of Xu talking about her own project: Not useful. 5 is a translation of the Forbes piece. With all those removed, there's nothing left.")
  • File:Dh logod.jpg ("I doubt the validity of that license")
  • File:Esham1.jpg ("dubious licensing")

SilverLocust 💬 13:01, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Your response on my talk page did not answer my question, which was "What criterion for speedy deletion does each of them fall into, if any?" The rationales you provided are not bases for speedy deletion but rather for deletion-discussion nominations (or in some instances PROD-style seven-day tagging under F4F7).
The one exception is that you've now asserted that Kelly Xu had no indication of importance. However, that standard "is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources", so noting that the sources are Forbes.com contributors and press releases doesn't mean that the assertions are not credible.
More broadly, my concern is that you are habitually deleting pages that aren't eligible for speedy deletion. These files should be nominated for deletion, not boldly deleted. Since yesterday, there's also File:Buttweld.jpg ("unused and extremely low quality (it's 6kb, made in MS-Paint)"), again despite F5's limitation to non-free images.
I'm looking for you to stop doing that. The easiest way would be for you to agree to stop, but if you are of the view that you don't need to follow deletion policy, there are more tedious ways to seek to resolve that. SilverLocust 💬 13:47, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
