{{DEFAULTSORT:Steel, Richard}}

Richard Charles Steel was born on November 12, 1968. In the 1980's, he played guitar for a gothic band called Ghost Dance. Richard joined Spacehog two months prior to recording Resident Alien as the replacement for the band's original lead-guitarist. A week after receiving the call from drummer and friend Jonny Cragg, Richard was already in New York jamming. In 1993, he played guitar on the Mercury Music Prize-nominated Sundiver album "Cautionary Tales", along with John Grant (producer, drummer) who had played with Richard in Ghost Dance. Other personnel featured on the album were John's brother, Pat Grant (bass guitar); Andrew von Melchior (keyboards) ex The Hollow Men and currently manager of Marlon Richards; Don Durham (singer/songwriter).
