John Scherer was born in St. Charles, Illinois. John’s descendants founded Naperville, Illinois; he grew up in Geneva, Illinois. John Scherer over 20 years ago realized the significance of computers before most people had even heard of them and started Data Link Research Service, Inc. a PC sales company. While computer sales were so so Scherer felt that millions of people needed to know how to operate a computer. He researched the resources available for learning and found there were no computer learning videos.

The manuals available were very thick and almost impossible to read. In April of 1987, John Scherer released his first set of user-friendly computer tutorials on videotape with his new company, Video Professor, Inc.Video Professor, Inc., initially sold their products in retail stores and trade shows, but after word spread quickly about this innovative new product, he created infomercials to reach a wider audience.

This ground-breaking advertising method made Video Professor the industry leader in computer learning back then. As of 2010 John has been no longer affiliated with Video Professor.

In 2011, John Scherer ventured into a new product launch – Canless Air, a necessity for any computer user, technician or anyone looking for an environmentally-safe alternative to canned air. The company, Canless Air Systems, has been mentioned on ABC, Gizmodo, the Denver Business Journal Wall Street Journal and many other media outlets. Even The Wharton School of Business IT Department uses and recommends the Canless Air System. John has developed the 02Hurricane for corporations as well as he has made it a great household cleaning product. The 02Hurricane commercials can be seen on TV as well.

John W. Scherer (born 1946) is well known for being the "face" for Video Professor, as he starred in all of the infomercials for Video Professor's products.
