Peter Joseph (born 1979) is an American independent filmmaker and social activist. He has written, directed, narrated, scored, and produced three documentary films called Zeitgeist: The Movie (2007), Zeitgeist: Addendum (2008), and Zeitgeist: Moving Forward (2011). He is the founder of the Zeitgeist Movement and on the steering committee of Project Peace on Earth.

Joseph also writes and produces the web series Culture in Decline. In 2013 he directed the Black Sabbath music video "God Is Dead?"

The Zeitgeist Movement uses Peter Joseph's limited liability corporation Gentle Machines Productions to develop projects including The Zeitgeist Film trilogy, and the Culture in Decline web series. Gentle Machines Productions works in conjunction with The Zeitgeist Movement, the group inspired by the Zeitgeist film series. Joseph also underwrites the main, annual live concert event called the "Zeitgeist Media Festival" through Gentle Machines LLC.

Media attention

Joseph's work has been the subject of articles in The New York Times, The Huffington Post, The Palm Beach Post, VC Reporter, TheMarker, and Globes. He has been a guest on the Russian television network RT TV regarding social theories proposed by The Zeitgeist Movement for the most recent economic crisis and has appeared on TheMarkerTV in Israel. He has appeared on two TEDx events: TEDxO'Porto and TEDxOjai (California). Joseph also appeared for a 49-minute interview on the internet news program The Young Turks, conducted by Cenk Uygur, to discuss his work and the Zeitgeist Movement.

"God is Dead?" video for Black Sabbath

Peter Joseph directed a "short-film" music video for the heavy metal music group Black Sabbath, entitled "God Is Dead?" The film had its world-premiere screening at the band's June 6, 2013, album release in Hollywood's Harmony Gold Preview Center. The music video film is largely composed of symbology extracted from Joseph's Zeitgeist trilogy, coupled with layers of imposed archival imagery of the band.
