== Re:Hounding ==

I am sorry if I gave the impression of "hounding" you, but the fact is that your posting on the WikiProject Japan talk page showed that you are not particularly fond of Misplaced Pages's policy of using Modified Hepburn romanization, and merely clicking on your signature showed me a bunch of pages you had created that violated said policy. Editing these pages (without even checking your full edit history) seemed like a natural move for me. You, on the other hand, have followed me to a completely unrelated AFD discussion on an article you never edited, and basically made an ''ad hominem'' attack against me without considering my arguments. Therefore, I would appreciate it if both of us could go on editing Misplaced Pages like civilized people, without either side making accusations of "harassment". We clearly do not agree on the usage of macrons in articles about Japan, but I believe our differences on this matter can be resolved by peaceable discussion of the issues at hand, of course in the appropriate forums (] and possibly ]). Therefore, when I make a good faith move request and you disagree, I would appreciate it if you would limit your response to a coherent argument against my proposal, and refrain from making personal allegations. Thank you. ] (]) 07:48, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
:I didn't follow you to any AfD. I was reading '''all''' the articles on AfD and adding to the discussion. Did you read my edit history: ? As you can see, I nominated ] for deletion, then since I'd nominated one article for deletion, I started "doing my duty" of reading all the other AfDs to help the discussion. You can go back as far as you want to all the articles I've nominated for deletion and you'll see that I do the same thing. In the course of doing this, I noticed that broken AfD which you made and tried to notify you of the problem. Did you read the instructions for AfD properly? As far as hounding goes, what you describe yourself as doing to me is exactly what is described at ]. Did you read this? Regarding your accusations about the romanization issue, you yourself don't seem to be particularly familiar with ] and ]. Did you read it? You moved at least two Misplaced Pages articles completely contrary to the policy stated there. Did you read the references and external links on the articles? I also don't know why you keep using words like "reliable sources" or "personal attack" when you don't seem to understand what these phrases mean in the context of Misplaced Pages discussions. Have you read ] or ]? Similarly when people told you on the AfD that you were using ] you assumed for some reason that this was describing your personal dislike. Did you read the document? I don't think you did. There is a consistent problem I notice with you that you jump to conclusions and form very strong opinions without making the effort to read anything or check what you are saying against the policy you claim to be in favour of. I request you to please actually read the documents, and try to understand them, and please stop jumping to bizarre conclusions. If you have any questions, you can ask on the question forum of Misplaced Pages and seek clarification. ] (]) 10:27, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
::I ''just said'' that I didn't read your edit history. (Also, you know, you can just give a Wikilink as ].) Whether or not you just accidentally happened across the AfD I started (and I'll take your word for it), you can't accuse me of hounding you when I was there first. I read JATITLE, yes. I just interpret ''the topic of the article preferring to spell their name a certain way'' to mean that they have actually stated this directly somewhere. Freelance translators/management agencies having arbitrarily dropped the macron that is ''already part of all such names written in the Hepburn system'' is not good enough to overrule the basic policy which is to stick to Hepburn. Translators (and Wikipedians) decide to drop the macrons for convenience ''all the time''. Any Japanese-speaking readers can read the name and still make a pretty good guess that the vowel is a long one, and non-Japanese-speakers are unlikely to pronounce it correctly either way. But Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia and has a set style-guideline. We try to use as uniform a romanization system as possible, and only make exceptions in exceptional cases. ] (]) 11:37, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

== Re: Disruptive editing ==

This is an irrational reaction to good faith edits on my parts. You have admitted your contempt for Misplaced Pages policy regarding the use of Modified Hepburn romanization, and your edits to various articles reflect this contempt. Whether it was you who made disruptive edits or anyone else, my fixing those edits should not be taken as "harassment" or anything else other than what it is: ] editing in accordance with Misplaced Pages policies.

The above cited threat is also behaviour unbecoming of a Wikipedian. I have not made a single attack against you personally, but our interactions have been regularly coloured by your assumption of bad faith and your making rather ... odd remarks about me and my credentials. Why do you assume I don't have a genuine interest in Japanese cinema? (Is it fair to assume was meant as sarcasm?) If you like I could email you a photo of my DVD collection -- probably over 400 Japanese movies I have been hoarding since I was 16. And given that you don't speak Japanese, it is fair to assume that about a quarter of them are films that you have not seen, since to the best of my knowledge they have never been subtitled or dubbed into English.

Additionally, your personal accusation was uncalled for. Why would you assume I just did a Google search and took the first thing I found?? I have studied Japanese literature for years, and that English translation of the title is the one given in reliable sources such as Keene (''World Within Walls'') and others. Unlike you, I actually have professional academic training in Japanese language and culture. I provided a translation of the title in parentheses not because I think it is the "official" name for the film in English (if it was I would have moved the article), but because ] specifies that we should provide a gloss where possible for foreign words. If no reliable sources were accessible, it would have been perfectly in line with policy for me to translate the name myself. But I did not just "do a google search and typing in the first thing you found" as you seem to assume.

] (]) 15:32, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
:Thanks for your input but as usual I would recommend that you actually read what I have written before responding to me. Incidentally, I also recommend that you read the wikipedia policy on personal attacks, since the above message is a pretty good example of a personal attack, the thing you keep accusing me of, remember? ] (]) 15:36, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

== Edit war?? 3RR?? ==

JoshuSasori, what did you mean by ? Your refusing to accept logic on this talk page, and your talk page, and my talk page, and continuously reverting my good faith edits has forced me to constantly make the same edit. However, you have reverted me just as often as I have reverted you. I am getting tired of babysitting you. Good night.

(If this continues, I will take you to ].)

::::Please stop quoting song lyrics at me. I have been on Misplaced Pages longer than you, my list of contributions is considerably greater than yours, and my recent edits have all clearly been in good faith and in accordance with Misplaced Pages policy. Hello. There is currently a discussion at ] regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. <!--Template:ANI-notice--> Thank you.

== Let's stop this bickering ==

I think it's gone on too long already, so I'm here to extend a hand of peace. I really never wanted to pick a fight, I was just editing as I saw fit. Can we "agree to disagree" here? I honestly do think we have a lot in common, even if you don't. I wasn't kidding when I said we have edited the same articles in the past -- I have loved Japanese cinema since I was 16, and edited a good few Misplaced Pages articles before my semi-retirement in 2008. Looking at me edit history, I noticed several articles that it seems you came to and edited later: ] (my edits were ); ] (); ] (); ] (); ] (); ] (); ] (); ] (); ] (). By pointing this out earlier, I did '''not''' mean to imply that you were stalking me (that would be ridiculous). I meant to say that this should be conclusive evidence that I am not a troll who only came to Japanese cinema articles on Misplaced Pages to harass you. So can we drop that thread and move on?

(Also, I noticed your edit to ] was erroneous, as Lafcadio Hearn is credited in the film as the writer of the original book, and much of the script is translated straight from his writing(s). Therefore, I am re-adding him as a writing credit.)

Cheers!

Moors murders

You revert once more more on this article and you'll see your arse at 3RR. It's OK to take the piss on video games articles or other pop culture crap, but not on mass murders. Malleus Fatuorum 21:30, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to report you and the other person for removing a POV tag from an article, threatening me, and personal attacks. JoshuSasori (talk) 21:37, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Go ahead. I can only assume that you feel lucky. Malleus Fatuorum 21:39, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Changing the subject, why do you want to present Myra Hindley in a sympathetic light, anyway? JoshuSasori (talk) 21:41, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't. Unlike you I just want to see a balanced account of the events. Malleus Fatuorum 21:46, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm guessing this issue is one which has been brought up before, since you seem to have your ducks lined up. JoshuSasori (talk) 21:54, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
One problem is, Joshu, that this has been reviewed as a "Featured Article". The editors who have spent most time on it (in a littlle edit club, I am thinking) are reluctant for any other to change it. This often seem to happen with FAs. But the other problem is that this particular editor just likes to be rude for the sake of it. because he knows best all the time. The way you have been talked to on that Talk Page is nothig short of offensive. Please don't take it personally. He is like that with every time. Even his edit summary offensive: e.g. "removing piss take". 20.133.0.13 (talk) 09:11, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your message. I often noticed odd things in W. articles for years before I made this account, and I remember noticing the oddity of that article years ago. As for this editor, I think it's like a dog, the smaller the dog, the more it barks. JoshuSasori (talk) 10:58, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Infobox Korean Film

There is a debate on Template Talk on the topic of merging Infobox Korean Film into the generic Infobox Film category. While it is specifically about Korean cinema, debate on the Japanese and Chinese templates have been brought in as well but currently there are no Japanese or Chinese film editors in the debate. As you are someone from the Japanese cinema task force I would appreciate it if you would take it a look and contribute your thoughts. Thank you. ₪RicknAsia₪ 04:17, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Perl Data Language

You have added many tags (6) to the Perl Data Language article, but have left no comments on the article talk page as to what specifically are the problems with the article, and hardly anything in the history comments. Would you please elaborate? Dododerek (talk) 21:45, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I reviewed the tags on the page. Each tag has a link to the relevant policy, which makes it self-explanatory. I don't see why elaboration on the talk page is required. Perhaps you are not familiar with Misplaced Pages's neutrality policy or requirement for reliable references? To save time having to point everything out on each talk page of each article tagged, there is a link from each tag to the relevant policy. If you are concerned about these tags, please read the links on the tags, and rewrite the article according to Misplaced Pages policies. For example, Misplaced Pages requires multiple third-party sourcing to reliable sources to establish notability. Incidentally, I was able to find some sources for the article by Google searching, otherwise I would have nominated it for deletion. If you can't understand the policy documents, which are quite long and confusing, then I will try to help explain them, if you leave a message here. If you don't want to do that, at least please leave the tags on the page so that it will be findable for other Misplaced Pages volunteers who do this kind of filling-in work. Thanks again for your message, and please let me know if you need any help understanding the linked Misplaced Pages policy documents. JoshuSasori (talk) 22:09, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
oh, I can read and understand English just fine (though you are correct those policy documents are rather long and boring). I was just hoping for more than a drive-by tagging. I think the main issue is one that probably confronts a lot of WP articles--the people who know the most about a topic aren't considered unbiased sources, and even if a "reputable" source did write about it, their one or two sources would be the same as the sources that could contribute to the WP article directly. So it's a bit tricky. I'll see what improvements can be made. It looks like the NumPy article is more well-sourced, so that should provide some good guidance. Dododerek (talk) 22:44, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Article tagging is one of two activities I do on Misplaced Pages. As I read the articles, I tag them when I see problems. I usually don't attempt to fix the problems on articles outside my range of knowledge. Depending on the type of tag, other people may come and fix the problems. For example, a linkrot tag is usually fixed within 24 hours. Incidentally when I tagged that article, I easily found what look like reliable sources for the article using Google search and Google book search. Google Scholar might turn up more references. It should be relatively easy to prove notability of Perl Data Language. (There are quite a lot of free software projects which don't meet these guidelines, which get sent to articles for deletion.) The advertisement tag can be dealt with by removing hyperbole or by adding citations for the comparisons and claims made. In any case, please think of these tags as a way to improve the article, not as a kind of punishment. JoshuSasori (talk) 23:09, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Coursera

I'm finishing up an essay, but are you interested in working on Coursera with me this weekend so we can get rid of the tags? These sources should provide some important information. Ryan Vesey 23:27, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

I am really sorry but I am pressed for time. It's OK to remove the tags once you are satisfied the concerns are addressed. JoshuSasori (talk) 00:03, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello JS. Thanks for your note. I trust you have seen my last edit summary where I tried to deescalate the situation and am stepping away. I am glad that you have the page on your watchlist. Yes, OK, it looks like the user is discussing on the talk page rather than editing (although the version is the user's version now). JoshuSasori (talk) 00:55, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

UKA Press

Hello Joshua, I just wanted to thank you for your words of encouragement on the UKA Press 'deletion' page. There are plenty of third party references out there (notably by the BFI, amongst others), but I'm afraid it will now take too long to present them, and it looks as if we are set for deletion. We publish the works of the UK's (possibly the worlds) leading film historian, television documentary-maker, author, and Academy Award recipient, so it seems pretty odd that we are not considered 'notable' enough to warrant a Misplaced Pages article, but that's life I suppose. Thanks anyway, your words were appreciated.AndreaUKA (talk) 13:14, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office . Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:35, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
