DYK for Door to Hell
On 1 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Door to Hell, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Door to Hell (pictured) has been blazing since 1971? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Door to Hell. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
The DYK project (nominate) 00:02, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the barnstar and fabulous picture and hook. It made it to WP:DYKBEST.--Redtigerxyz 16:18, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for the Barnstar, different from the ordinary. Probably you already know that Door to Hell got a little more than 26,000 hits. Congrats, as it is our maximum count so far. I am concentrating now on Varanasi and delayed finalizing the Mahabalipuram articles. Incidentally, the review comment on DYK page below the Izena Island the world (slapped tags on the article) is insulting (probably by the same user who first reviewed Honiara). I thought you could rebut the best, if you feel like. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 18:41, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
I also searched but could not find WP:DYKBEST. The reference leads to the list of articles with more than 25,000 hits, probably he meant Door to Hell.--Nvvchar. 18:50, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Probably he meant the count for Naraka which is about 80,000 hits as it tops the list.--Nvvchar. 18:53, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Caacupe.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Caacupe.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.flickr.com/photos/9698045@N08/2144290922/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Misplaced Pages's image use policy. A barnstar for you!
The Special Barnstar | |
This barnstar is awarded to you in appreciation of your submission to the WP:2012 main page redesign proposal. The straw poll has now closed (see results), but the discussion continues on the talk page – hope to see you there! Evad37 (talk) 00:25, 1 November 2012 (UTC) |
Thanks, but Sven's slight adjustment of my design actually received 85%, higher than even Pretzel's who of course created his design very early on, mine came very late... Anyway, I hope whoever changes the main page will consider an enlarged FA photo and "adverts" on wikipedia editing and a more stylish header. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:19, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Put a Lydian it
Dr. B.!
In my ignorance, I neglected to mention that Ralph Patt studied with George Russell (composer) and helped to edit Russell's book on the Lydian mode.
Apparently, the 1959 book thanks Patt. Perhaps you have it? Kiefer.Wolfowitz 00:58, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

- Ryan,
- I've tried to be gentle about this, but MY ARTICLES COME FIRST! Your courses be damned! ;P Kiefer.Wolfowitz 13:48, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- My apologies master. So, my assumption was that you were referring to Lydian chromatic concept of tonal organization. You might still be referring to that, but my version is copyrighted from 2001 and doesn't show any older copyrights. No mention of Platt is made in the acknowledgements of that book. Do I have the wrong book or is the year wrong? Is there anything you'd like scanned from the book? Ryan Vesey 20:16, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- Apparently the book came out in 1959. Discussion with Patt, Another discussion crediting Patt Patt seems to have been warm and wise and generous in many jazz-guitar discussions. (Having a daughter has helped me relax about the lives of young people. I used to give advice to Ryan to stay away from Misplaced Pages when he has a chance to think and write with serious intellects at U. Penn.) Kiefer.Wolfowitz 22:30, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Marrakesh
On 1 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Marrakesh, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that in 2009, when Fatima-Zahra Mansouri was elected mayor of Marrakech, she became only the second woman in Morocco's history to be elected mayor of a Moroccan city? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Where be my medal?
My dear Doctor: by my count, I now have 115 DYK credits to my name, but no 100 DYK medal. I expect this deplorable situation to be rectified, the sooner the better! - Biruitorul 16:57, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Eagle eyes
I have nominated the rest of the four articles of Marrakech. I have put text here Eagle eyes, of course most reliable references ( we have been collaborating for nearly three years now and written hundreds of articles). I introduced two book references in Varanasi article, which are really good. I will also add some text now.--Nvvchar. 22:05, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
You can see this also Myopia in animals for more inputs if available. Rosie is busy with her family. Do you know that Door to Hell got about 26,298 hits in DYK? Congrats for choosing that subject. Varanasi will need lot of inputs almost in every section. I have added a little in the lead , hisorty and temples from my DYK of 2009 on Sapta Puri and also also from Sankatmochan Hanuman Temple and Kashi Vishawanath temple. It will take a while to add text from books and reliable official sources for other sections. --Nvvchar. 05:45, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

"The most unwanted music"
Not sure if you saw this when it originally hit Wired in 2008. Try listening to the whole thing in the background while working. Mid page is the stream. Listen here. I like the numerous blended opera/rap sections in particular. I think it is around 20 minutes long. Anyone stalking your page is also obligated to listen to the entire piece. Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 15:15, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Cool, I actually thought it more interesting than lots of commercial music. Just put Bieber or Little Wayne on that'll pretty much meet the requirement for anybody with half a brain cell anybody who isn't a pre-teenager...♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:54, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Help with user creating tons of articles.
User:Banhtrung1 has been creating a ton of athletic articles such as Mamed Batyrov and Yujiro Hidaka. The problem being is that they all are cookie cutter and don't give an actual reference. The reference goes to a general page of all competitions at the Asian games. I asked them to stop and put in an actual reference to past articles, but they continued creating articles. Not to mention it takes me longer to add in Defaultsort and proper valued in the talk page than it takes them to create the page. What should be my next move? Bgwhite (talk) 00:34, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Ask him to stop and use a full citation. Make a list of the articles he has created and either ask him to go back and ask him to add a full reference or see if Joe Decker or somebody can.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:38, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Izena Island
Hello! Your submission of Izena Island at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! — Maile (talk) 23:54, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- I posted this on the nominator Nvvchar's talk page, but am also posting here so it doesn't slip through the cracks. — Maile (talk) 23:54, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- I have replied to all observations made on four of our articles after making needed changes in the articles. Please see. --Nvvchar. 18:09, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- In the whale article, one reference was redundant as it related to the Onasis's stool in his yacht (the text was removed), which I have now deleted. In the other reference, now ref 5, the title and name of author was right but the url was wrong, which I have corrected now. I suppose it is fine now. I did not know that you had included my name also in the nomination. Will you kindly look into the Izena Island review and sort it out (I have tried) and the other is the Fatima, Mayor of Marrakech article which also needs your attention since there is lot of confusion about the years.--Nvvchar. 18:19, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
- The articles Museum of Asian Art, High cheekbones, Eagle eyes, and Myopia in animals started by you are completed from my end. You may like to nominate them. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 18:45, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
I have added to 1-21 Cornwall Terrace. Please see since I am not very conversant with places in London. I have nominated three article though a day or two late. Shall I nominate Museum of Asian Art and High cheekbones?--Nvvchar. 15:36, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi, two things, there's an IP on the BLP noticeboard claiming it should be "Wictor Sajeni". Looking at Google that might be right, but I don't know. I then noticed the only source on the BLP (now) leads nowhere. I was going BLPprod it but, when I saw you created it, I thought it might be better to refer it to you. Thanks.--Scott Mac 22:37, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Ah, arrogant IPs, what a surprise! Hehe, I'll look into it.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:39, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
File source problem with File:Zhangzungdeity.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Zhangzungdeity.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Copyedit help!
Can you please help copyediting these two article:
Long long commentaries, opinions and placing those in citation section, adding every possible link in external link section (in one article I have just deleted some ELs), many self-published references... I have had a wish to delete everything in the second article and do a clean start which I am not going to do. Please help in copyediting if possible! --Tito Dutta (talk) 02:27, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
Eeeks, that's a headache for sure!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 14:02, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- The article is a much better condition now! Or this is the best version I have seen in last two years. I wish to fully protect this version- no more edit needed - which is not possible in Misplaced Pages.
- In these articles (and few more articles) I have seen some editors, when you tell them something they immediately agree with you and thanks you in the most polite way for your invaluable suggestions. But, right after that they do exactly the opposite thing what you have asked them to do.
- a) Some editors consider Misplaced Pages articles as the place to show their respect homage to a person. b) their too much adjectivophilia (I do not the exact word, inclination towards using too many adjectives.) It starts with something like His holiness, his divine Bhagavan Trikaldarshi Bhaktichuramoni Shrii Shrii... and right after that it ends with something like Paltu Maharaj took lunch.
- Again, the article is a much better condition now.---Tito Dutta (talk) 18:00, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Blofeld.. I appreciate the work you have done to improve and make the article on Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar more encyclopedic and readable. I was trying from time to time to add some information on this prolific author but I found a little difficult to restructure the whole article. Now I find that it's a very professional and neutral starting point and I hope that also Titodutta will be happy!--Cornelius383 (talk) 17:37, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thankyou, its a pity the individual who persists on reverting Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary doesn't think the same!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:39, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Have they made some changes? I should have got an edit conflict message here. --Tito Dutta (talk) 18:03, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
