*'''Delete''' Does not conceivably meet any provision of WP:PROF, as in fact, he is not even a professional academic. He's actually merely a graduate student, working for his PhD. He is listed as a Visiting Researcher at the Harvard Dept. of History of Science . but his Harvard bio is incoherent. Being a Professor at harvard is notable, being a pre-doctoral fellow is not. He has made no impact on his profession, publishing only a few journalistic papers and a master's thesis. He has not made substantial impact at anything other than getting publicity. However, he might be notable as an author, depending on whether the prizes he asserts for the two books he published can be actually proven and are actually significant. So far there's no evidence of that. If accepted, the article will needs some considerable trimming to rid it of its self promotion. ''']''' (]) 03:00, 10 October 2012 (UTC) |

Biography of a non-public figure. Most references are personal pages available in different sites or scientific papers. Musaxinho (talk) 14:26, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- Comment: Hi! I am new here and am learning about Misplaced Pages. I translated this article from Portuguese Misplaced Pages and there are many sources about this researcher in large media newspapers, magazines and TVs (O Gobo, G1, Jornal da Globo, Veja, etc). The work of this researcher is well known and used, within and outside Brazil, so much that he was invited to study at Harvard. His work is used, for example, by the Ministry of Defense of Brazil, therefore, it is something important. Brazil is an unequal country, which does not participate in wars for decades. Discovering and prove that the Defense Budget is only inferior to the Public Health and Social Security is something impressive - it helps to review the policies of the country. The article is a literal translation of the Misplaced Pages in Portuguese, but if you feel necessary, I ask to help me improve it. Obs: "Most references are personal pages": It is not true. The sources are the biggest newspapers, magazines and TVs in Brazil and Latin America, please, check it adequately. Thank you for your attention. --USAnne (talk) 06:38, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- Comment: Hi. Explaining my reasoning a little bit more. Despite the number of references to newspapers all of them are about the same subject. So I imagine if fits into this: Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons, section 3.5. Obtaining a MsC Degree and attending Harvard are great feats but I'm not sure they are important enough to justify an article at an encyclopedia. Maybe some of his finding could be added in here: Brazilian Armed Forces, section 8, but even this may be controversial. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musaxinho (talk • contribs) 14:25, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- Comment: Hi Musaxinho. Thank you for help me improve it. The references to newspapers are not about the same subject. There are interviews/reports with different dates along years and about: national defense, accountability, budget, innovation, science and technology etc. There are three important themes in the work of this researcher:
- 1. Brazil does not participate in wars, but spends too much money on defense (really impressive);
- 2. Despite spending so much on defense, the Brazilian Armed Forces are scrapped (even more impressive, as it shows serious problems in the use of resources in a country with high inequality);
- 3. The researcher is a fellow at Harvard (it is an international honor), where he works to formulate a better use for resources of Defense of Brazil in the generation of science and technology.
- All of these are in the sources and in the article. My other point is that the sources that are in the Misplaced Pages article in Portuguese are the largest newspapers:Valor Econômico Newspaper, TVs:TV Globo, magazines: O Dia and even radios:Radio CBN in Brazil and Latin America. I don't know what could be better than these sources, because I know Brazil. I think that's why these sources are in the article in Portuguese.
- I believe that this researcher reaches various points in the academic criteria of Misplaced Pages: Academics
- "Academics/professors meeting any one of the following conditions, as substantiated through reliable sources, are notable:
- 1. The person's research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources.
- 2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level. (Harvard University fellow)
- 7. The person has made substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity.
- 9. The person is in a field of literature (e.g writer or poet) or the fine arts (e.g. musician, composer, artist), and meets the standards for notability in that art, such as WP:CREATIVE or WP:MUSIC."
- Besides, These sources/contributions were not a problem for Misplaced Pages in Portuguese. Why it would be only in the translation? Thank you again and best regards, --USAnne (talk) 15:01, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- Keep: Musaxinho, after this analysis that we did together and with the improved of the font that was inaccessible, would you like to make more some suggestion or help me improve it more? Thank you, --USAnne (talk) 04:40, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
