::::I know edit summaries are nice. But the fact is that many new and unreigstered editors simply don't realize that they should be used. And therefore it's still ultimately the patrollers' jobs to ensure that they are reverting properly. It's both true and insane that "if it does not pass the smell test, it usually gets reverted." That's not how Misplaced Pages should work or how we want it to work. Even if this is the case, patrollers who really care should be taking time to check edits carefully. Otherwise, we drive away contributors and then there are even less people who might be interested in joining and becoming a patroller or writer. ] (]) 03:33, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Although everyone is invited to contribute, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Tim Blixseth, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Unexplained removal of content

Just to let you know, I (and probably others) would have reverted it (probably flagged as "unexplained removal of content". Good edit summaries usually prevent this (No True Scotsman) Much vandalism consists of seamingly random deletions. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 02:55, 2 June 2012 (UTC) Jim1138 (talk) 02:55, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Edit summaries are not required. It's your duty, as the patroller, to check the possible reasons I removed content. Only when no possibly valid reason exists should you revert. If too much was removed, or a valid reason only applied to part of the content, then it's your job to selectively re-add the material you consider appropriate. The problem with patrollers today is that most of them simply don't take enough time to think about why something might have been removed before reverting it as "unexplained removal of content." 99.144.114.54 (talk) 03:00, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

The problem with patrollers is we are nearly overwhelmed by vandalism. Edit summaries help considerably. While it would be nice if we took the time to carefully check everything, in reality if it does not pass the smell test, it usually gets reverted. Ultimately, for the worse, patrollers in cases like this are only bound by wp:3RR. Happy editing! Jim1138 (talk) 03:19, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
I know edit summaries are nice. 99.144.114.54 (talk) 03:33, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
