Founded in 1930 by Leonard Woolf (husband of Virginia) The Political Quarterly is a British political journal that has provided a platform for debate of a broadly reformist and social-democratic persuasion for 75 years. However its editorial policy has always been sufficiently open that it could include early contributions from both Leon Trotsky and Benito Mussolini. The magazine serves as an influential conduit between official policy-makers, political commentators and academic social scientists and is renowned for its dedication to clear jargon-free English: it is one of the sponsors of the prestigious annual Orwell Prize for political writing. Former editors include Leonard Woolf, Kingsley Martin, Sir Bernard Crick and David Marquand. The magazine is currently published by Blackwell Publishing from Oxford and is co-edited by Andrew Gamble and Tony Wright MP.
