Hello, my name is Greg Levant. I represent Mr. Wunderlee. It has come to our attention that the article about Mr. Wunderlee on Misplaced Pages.com has come under consideration for deletion. This appears to the crusade of one person (user name Leesome), who alleges that Mr. Wunderlee is a “vanity” author who only publishes through “vanity” presses. This is patently untrue, which is “verifiable” through a simple internet search.
Since Misplaced Pages indicates that “verifiability” is a cornerstone of the process, we would expect Leesome and others to follow this basis for his/her statements and reasoning. Where, how, and by what mechanism did Leesome or anyone else come up with the conclusions made on Articles for deletion/Christopher Wunderlee? Many of the allegations made are false and do not appear to be verified themselves, which we take as a serious issue bordering on libel (based on this, we have sent a letter to Misplaced Pages to request some procedure to avoid defamation by a rogue user).
First of all, the originator of the page for Mr. Wunderlee was a a user named Mirsante. Therefore, “This is a vanity page created by a writer…” is inaccurate. We have been monitoring this entry and have had a few clarifying points, otherwise, neither us nor Wunderlee has had anything to do with this posting. Where is the verifiable information located indicating the page was started by the author?
Secondly, “who has published only vanity books” is an incorrect statement as well, easily verifiable by a search of his books. His novella The Loony was published by Picaro Editions, short stories by the same publisher and collection of poetry by Snark Publishing. None of these publishers are “vanity” presses. Leesome and others needs to understand the publishing industry before making erroneous statements. The Loony is listed on some sites as published by Lulu.com and/or Lightning Source because, at that time, in order for a small publisher to have books available on as many marketplaces as possible and to utilize this resource (including having a book on internet bookstores and Google Books), they needed to use a facilitator like Lulu, Ingram’s or Lightning Source.
Finally, it is interesting that no one did an internet search, where numerous book reviews, blogs, publishing credits and other readers’ statements are easily available. It is book reviewers/critics, readers and other writers who have assessed Mr. Wunderlee and made connections between his work and notable other writers, genres, etc. The amount of information about Mr. Wunderlee by third-parties is plentiful. If this does not make an author “notable”, you will need to provide some alternate definition for us. Please explain how you judge notable.
Concerning, “reliability” Misplaced Pages states, “Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Sources should be appropriate to the claims made.” Are you suggesting the numerous websites Mr. Wunderlee is listed on, including reviews, books, articles, fiction, etc. are “unreliable”? I think the award-winning literary journals Zyzzyva and Snow Monkey, Reviewer’s Bookwatch, the fan-based website Two Poets, Picaro Editions and Snark Publishing, and numerous others would take exception to this.
We have not used Misplaced Pages to promote Mr. Wunderlee. Mr. Wunderlee has not used Misplaced Pages to promote himself.
Concerning the Loony, “As a vanity press book (and one that has sold far fewer than the 5000-copy WP threshold)”. Can you verify your assertion that the book sold far fewer than 5,000 copies? How are you privy to its sales? We have reliable sales information we would be happy to share with Misplaced Pages facilitators to challenge this statement.
“The author has created a number of sock puppets to promote himself and his vanity works on Misplaced Pages.” And “For just one example of his seeding legitimate literature articles with his self-promotion, see the following”. This is libel. Please Misplaced Pages’s own article on this subject. http://en.wikipedia.org/Defamation#Slander_and_libel
If the community of Misplaced Pages determines to delete Mr. Wunderlee and his book from its pages, that is its decision. However, it was members of the community that posted the articles, just as other sites (easily verifiable with an internet search) chose to post information about him (unless you find it plausible that he, or us, have invented literary magazines, book reviews, publishers, blogs, etc.). Deletion should be done based on “verifiable”, “reliable” information, not the rants of some person who does not follow Misplaced Pages’s procedures and has made it a personal mission to defame our client for an unknown reason.
Our letter to Misplaced Pages demands censure of Leesome for libel. We are committed to pursuing this issue. Please be aware that your statements are being monitored and action will be taken. |

This is a vanity page created by a writer who has published only vanity books, none of which are notable on their own. This writer has also gone through Misplaced Pages seeding legitimate articles with links to this vanity article. One of his vanity-press publishers is LuLu.com, a well-known vanity press. If we allow this article to stand, then any human being on the planet with a checkbook can "publish" a book with a vanity press and then write a vanity article about himself on Misplaced Pages. We would be inundated with thousands of vanity entries. This article should be deleted. Leesome (talk) 19:45, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- Delete. Failure to meet the verifiability criteria, as there are no independent reliable sources cited in the article. —C.Fred (talk) 19:47, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
